    Bottle Logic Fundamental Observation

Evening, BAs. This bottle and proper glassware alike come to me courtesy of @2beerdogs and the NBS BIF. Thanks, Derek, they're both fantastic.

Fundamental Observation pours a dark, rich mahogany with a finger of mocha head that's quick to dissipate. It leaves a nice, fat crown, but zero lacing.

It has a big aroma of chocolate fudge, vanilla and light bourbon with a hint of cherry.

Sweet vanilla taste up front with a little brownie batter chocolate, some nice alcohol burn and a good amount of hop bitterness on the backend with hints of pine, leather, oak and tobacco.

Really thick, creamy mouthfeel with a touch of carbonation cutting through. World class in this regard.

Seems like a dessert beer at first, but has oodles of depth and darkness beneath. Superb. An absolute pleasure to try. Joke time...

    WHAT'S THIS?

New beer shopping day today, on the road in Pa. So some Sly Fox Helles and Union Jack that's under 2 months old, the other place I looked for this beer it was well over 6. Also managed a slew of Tired Hands beers[IMG] this weekend.

The Helles. Far lighter in color than I was expecting , and far less to the sweet than say the Red Oak I'm used to. For under 18 IBU is surprisingly bright and clean, obviously the malt is there but it's not overly heavy. My palate is not sophisticated at all , taken blind I'd guess this to be a Marzen Fest beer. Another stellar Sly Fox beer, like the full opening can, first I've seen.

    Hi NBS folks.
I missed you all last weekend as I was out of town enjoying the psychedelic fall colors near the Maine border but I did at least get to drool over your posts. This week I am back with a new beer and a review. I wish I had a joke but I can never remember a good one when I need to.

My beer this week is a new Brett beer from a great brewery, by way of a great BA.

It pours really nice, clear and bright with the puffy white head you'd expect (or hope for). The nose is immediately present. Fruity and bright as well, stone fruits and funky Brett.

This is a fabulous little beast of a beer.
It pours beautifully. The aroma and flavor both have a lot going on. A good three-way balance of earthy brett, stone fruits, and pleasant, unobtrusive malt. It is very drinkable, very tasty, and very well-made.
I think it is probably the best low ABV beer I've ever had the pleasure of trying. I could drink this one all day. It could be better with more alcohol, no question, but it really hit the spot, regardless.

I love Allagash's beers. They never disappoint. I wish I got them more regularly, but it is nice that they are always a treat, too. Thanks Jacob!

My review is here if anyone is still reading this.

I hope you all have a great rest of your Sunday!
    Santé!

I know you know this, but leave her alone and speak to her in "your" normal calm voice. Reassurance is a little time consuming, but trust usually lasts. She will sidle up to you, I'll bet.

    Time for another beer.

3 Stars Brewing - Pounding Trees DIPA

    ----------------------

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Pale caramel amber body color, with a nice nut brown like appearance. Fairly clear, with a slight reaching three finger off white colored head, but a little tinier than your average DIPA. Good staying power, sort of creamy to soapy like appearance on top.

Good solid simple aroma if a little malty. Touches toasty caramel, a little flour like in quality, but with very little hop aromatics. Not sure where this is going.

Palate takes things down slightly. A very syrupy and sweet tasting mouthfeel, large amounts of thick brown sugar with very little hop bitterness or character. A fleeting amount of faint citrus perhaps, but washes a bit thick and boozy. Good malt bill, and also distinct with touches of nut and biscuit.

Like this malt profile, but the hops on this thing in flavor and aroma are practically non existent.

    Tourist Joke Alert:

“Nice little town — so old and quaint. Must be a lot of odd characters around here, though, right?”
Answer: “Oh yes, quite a few. You see ’em around. But they’re mostly gone after Labor Day.”

Well, in my town they're gone after Columbus Day weekend, except this year as we experienced a second big foliage weekend this weekend. They'll be back by Christmas for the winter, though.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch creamy white head over a slightly hazy yellow body with some lacing. Nose of citrus, primarily orange. Taste follows with flavors of orange and not much vanilla at all, maybe a little on the finish. Thinner mouthfeel than I was hoping for. Overall, fairly refreshing little brew here, nothing spectacular.

Reminds me of the shirts I've seen in Cooperstown NY: "Cooperstown, a drinking town with a baseball problem."

Also, of bumperstickers I've seen in the more, ahem, rural parts of Florida: 'if it's tourist season, why can't I shoot 'em?"

The recently very rare case where UVa actually beat UNC in football emboldened me . Hopefully we can get in two more wins before we lose the last 4 (including to VaTech :slight_frown:). Thirsty after a round of pitch ‘n’ putt at McMenamin’s Edgefield, might get in another new beer here soon.
