I am going to do a DR9, Pumpkinator 11, and Pumpkinator 12 side by side tasting sometime this fall. Hoping to either prove or disprove that Pumpkinator is much thinner than DR9. Will report my findings.

22oz / $8 = 2.75 oz per dollar. That is not cheap. I can get BCBS 4 packs for $20. 48oz/$20 = 2.4 oz per dollar. BCBS requires 6 months in a barrel and room to store it. Seriously people, $8 is not cheap for 22oz of beer.

This is by no means a "very rare" seasonal, and if someone had trouble finding, they must not have tried hard enough, because it's a staggered release taking place state wide.

I mean as in water does have to be added eventually, doesn't it?

rare (in this context) doesn't drive cost. this community needs to erase from its memory the idea of rarity and the thought that it drives up the "value" of a beer...or even the idea that beer has value outside of consumption.

AND i know it may seem odd...but not all companies are greedy corporations. some care about their customer base. i'm willing to bet that Saint Arnolds is making a nice profit off this beer AND keeping the insane masses who are rabid about his beer happy with a nice price point.

I do not see Pumpkinator as a rare beer at all. Anyone know the bottle count?

I don't know the exact number of barrels, but I did hear St. Arnold say it was twice as much as last year.

That would make 27,720 22oz bottles, but you have to account for kegging in there too

This is a great seasonal, like Rahr BBWW. Rare = Fortuna Roja at 120 bottles.

As far as cost is concerned its price tag is awesome for quality. I think it's similar cost to Stone IRS...yeah craft aint cheap but on that scale it's very reasonable.

HEB Burleson looked to be down to half a case.

Jester King's Whiskey Barrel Rodeo had a release of 1,200 750mL bottles (100 cases) and the latest release of (512) Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter had 2,400 750mL bottles (200 cases) to give some comparison. Of course those cost more than twice as much and were barrel-aged, but I'm just comparing rarity. Just to put the "OMG, THIS SHIZ BE RARE WALEZ!" to rest.

If it is, it's because people are going into stores without bottle limits and buying all of them.

Water is the first thing added before grains to the mash. I had last years pumpkinator and it was a bit more thick, maybe this just needs to age to get better.

    It's a vicious cycle.

True. If only more people would buy it to drink instead of obsessively hording something that probably won't be any good in a couple years anyhow.

Oh well. Good for St. Arnold for making something that inspires that reaction.

Yeah I'm enjoying this, its very balanced. Wish it was a bit more stouty/heavy but I don't mind it one bit. DR12 though, I just couldn't get into it.

Difference of opinion I guess. I view a traditional seasonal as being produced in quantities to support that season...like Ofest beers. This brew certainly wasn't brewed in a capacity to support an entire season - it didn't even make it a week on the shelves. I think SA has been around long enough to build the capital needed to support such a crazy idea. When the stores are raided like a zombie apocalypse and forcing the stores to introduce limits - that's when you know that you have a pricing anomaly. Look at DF120 as a great example.
