Cool guys. Amid the sarcasm and the "why are you asking this question?" responses, sounds like there are a lot of opinions out there. I've only had a few Kuhnhenns, and when I first started on BA a little while back I was surprised at how world renowned some of their beers were, particularly the barrel aged stuff. I need to get into their stuff a little more...Detroit beer fest perhaps?

    Cheers.

Kuhnhenns doesn't have much they're bringing to the Fall beer Fest, but what they are bringing is solid. Your best bet to try the cream of the crop is the Winter Solstice party on 12.21.12... which also happens to be the end Of the world. Not a bad way to go out in my opinion!

Kuhnhenn's meads and wines are DEFINITELY better.

You heard it first: Kuhnhenn and Hanssen's (I guess?) are the best breweries. Period.

Related note: Cigar City might be good someday, too!

Hanssen's doesn't actually make the mead. It's sourced from Lurgashall.

I've officially lost all respect for Hanssen's. Next time I need an over-priced Kriek, I'm reaching for Big Sky.

Kuhnhenn is #1. They make the best mead, and their barrel aged beers are incredible. Not to mention all the experimentation...

Time for some facts to counter the Ba hyperbole.
These data are from the "Michigan Beer Guide" 2012 issue, 2011 data. You can read it online now.

Brewery Michigan in State Sales Total Production (all numbers are in bbls.)
    Bells 78,732 180,504
    Founders 17,795 40,937
    Kuhnen 971.6 971.6

Bells sold more in state than Founder made in total.
Kuhnhenn is brewpub sized, and there are 5 Brewpubs bigger than Kuhnhenns in Michigan.

What about them? Not distributed here.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Those numbers obviously hurt my argument, but I still think Founders commands a lot more respect in Michigan than Bells. I don't dislike Bells at all, but I'll take Founders any day of the week.

It's all IMO. Maybe my perception is skewed.

I have explained to some people recently that Founders was a Michigan brewery from Grand Rapids. Ba's have a strange view of the beer scene.
You would really be surprised how few know Kuhnhenn.

Not sure it's a smartass comment as Kuhnhenns is definitely smellier than Founders.

As my wife has told me several times, just because something is true doesn't mean I'm not a smartass for saying it.
