Nobody ever even questioned the existence of those beers lol. That was never even part of the discussion but you're absolutely correct in that it's a fact that they exist. The mere existence of those beers doesn't prove your "fact" that imperial stouts age better than ones with adjuncts in them, however.

First off, you should probably google "fact vs. opinion" (here's a good place to start). To use your example, climate change is a fact that can be proven and backed through scientific studies. The cause of said changes are what is still up for debate.

Now that is ignorant. If you can't agree, just close your ears and walk away, huh? Fair enough, that is your prerogative.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I'm with the majority here. Fresh FBS is better. The coffee flavor really stands out. Same goes for the vast majority of coffee stouts I've had. The fresher it is the better off you are. Cheers!

Oh man. After all these years, I finally got a response from the famous @cavedave !!! And I can't believe that it was a response to my stupid, trolly post!!! I am simultaneously honored, embarrassed, and disturbed by this!

I never said they weren't. All I said was that I think they taste better fresh. I've had many aged Imperial Stouts and they do taste different but IMO not better.

"Fact" and "Literally" are two words that not many people seem to use correctly these days, and that's literally a fact. :stuck_out_tongue:

FBS is better fresh in my opinion, but is also mighty tasty with some age on it. I'll admit, I've never had a bottle more than a full year old though.

Ah, sorry I missed that. Whatever, you're still entitled to that opinion. Just tired of seeing people ramming their opinion through as factual information (not just here on BA but in general).

I actually like almost most beers fresh with the exception of some English barleywines and old ales. I do like a good cellared imperial stout. As you said, to each their own.

That's what happens when people just jump in without reading everything. And then want to argue over something that was never stated in the first place. :zipper_mouth:

But you didn't present any facts. I don't even disagree with the premise but you continue to spew words that make you look like an idiot.

Always been a fan of fresh breakfast stout. Even though better fresh I still like squandering a few for the holidays and snowdays in the winter.

Wow! This is ridiculous! Imperial Stouts are great for aging. That's a well known fact! And for those who don't think so, use Google. You'll find a ton of information about it. This shows, just because you're on Beer Advocate, doesn't mean you have any basic knowledge about beer styles.

And for those who believe that the Earth is flat, I can't make you believe that it's round. No matter what I say or show.

    How To Store Beer

"Wine is not the only drink that can be aged for maturation. Many beers benefit from extended aging. We're not talking about your average beer with a mere shelf life of 3-6 months, tops -- before quality begins to degrade. We're talking about beers that beg for maturation and strict storage like vintage beers, barleywines, imperial stouts, Belgian strong ales, lambics, old ales and so on. Ideally, any type of beer that can be laid-down for a year or two, or even more, in order to build a slew of complexities and thus further its character in a positive way."

Founder's Breakfast Stout is a top 5 adjunct stout not barrel aged IMO.
Founder's Porter is a top 5 porter IMO.
Founders Imperial Stout is a top 5 Imperial Stout in my opinion.
KBS is a top 5 Barrel aged stout in my opinion.

This just in; founder's makes great dark beers.

Give me Allagash, Sierra Nevada, and Foundrs for Belgians, hoppy, and dark beers respectively and I will be content for the rest of my life. All three do such a good job within there respective categories (and within others as well like founder centennial and SN porter).

I thought you said you were done here?

Nobody is arguing with you on this. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of us here on BA have an imperial stout or 12 sitting in their cellar right now (I know I do).

What we are arguing about is your misuse of the word "fact". When @dennis3951 says
he is stating that, in his opinion, he thinks imperial stouts are better fresh. Who are you to say what he does and doesn't enjoy? I guarantee he knows more about his own personal tastes than you do and vice versa. It's stupid to even try to argue this.

    See above:hugging:

Just a few days ago, I noticed a few bottles of FBS on the shelves of one of my local craft beer dealers that actually had a different label from the one I've been seeing around here. Instead of the kid eating from the bowl with a spoon, it was just the bowl. Just how old are these bottles and would you still recommend buying them?

Keep in mind that I don't have a lot of options here in Germany when it comes to this stuff and these are the only bottles of FBS that I've ever seen around here. What really makes me suspicious though is that the back label for all of them has been ripped off, probably because that's where the sticker with the best before date goes on imported beer bottles in Germany...

There was some controversy about the child on the label so they produced some with the bowl label. Don't know if they still use the bowl label.

It's good this year, tastes the same as it always does. Don't even bother putting this beer in the fridge, it by far tastes the best at room temp. It's a whole different beer when cold, not good at all.

I've tried aging Imperial Stouts but I don't think it improves the taste. Might as well drink them fresh.
