I wasn't really sure where to post this and I'm guessing this is the only place.

Anyway I was at Yard House the other day for a friends birthday so of course I'm gonna drink something. So I get a Real Ale's Devil's Backbone(the beer that got me started with craft) and when I tasted it I was so disappointed. I know that there's a difference in draft and bottles but I don't think it's supposed to taste bad on draft. It just didn't taste like DB at all. When it warmed up a little it tasted more like it but it tasted diluted or something.

Anybody ever had this problem and how have y'all dealt with it? I'm not the kind of person to say anything and have never had to with a beer so didn't really know what to do.

Also the whole night sucked. They switched out our server like twice and I waited so long for the waitress to come back I went up to the bar to get a beer before happy hour was over. Then the waitress kept a tip that wasn't her and when we got it back she still shorted us.

Palate's change, the one that started you into crafts I'm guessing is still the same, but exposure to different brews and styles changes one's perspective. LOL, either that or they simply had dirty lines making said bear suck.

So long as you are sure it wasn't your palate that was compromised. . .

Like Clint Eastwood essentially said, if its not as good as it should be, send that beer back. Don't tolerate subpar and compromised products.

I've sent back probably ~20 beers in my time, which is about 1 per year. It happens. Don't be ashamed of someone else's mistake, or calling them on it. You know what the beer is supposed to taste like. If it happens enough, the restaurant will fix the problem, whether its on their end, or the distributor/producer. Returned pints diminish profit margins.

Yardhouses here have good lines on everything I've had, and I'm there once a week. Been to numerous locations.

Palates change. I've had that happen to mine.

However I have caught the server or bartender serving me the wrong beer at some places. Sometimes they figure you can't tell and they don't want to go through the whole piss you off process and offer something else.

The entire point of enjoying a night out is to "enjoy" yourself particularly at a restaurant.

If you think something is wrong with your drink, or your food, ask the wait staff and bring it to their attention.

A good place without hesitation will want your company and treat you well and offer you another beer (in this case) if you're not liking it. They'll usually offer you something else.

It's not a big deal, speak up, you're the customer, but remember you get farther resolving a problem with a server using honey than vinegar

No way it could have been me..jk. Could have been but even my friend, who's birthday it was, had it too and he said the same.
I guess I'll just send it back next time. But hopefully I don't have to deal with that again. Sh*t happens though. I think I was second guessing myself that maybe it was me but it was just totally different.

I totally understand that. I work customer service at QVC(at work right now actually haha) and I'm willing to help people that are nicer and feel a lot better when I do. Because of working here I'm the nicest person to people while their working.

Never be afraid to send a beer back for any reason. Hell, if it means I can convince someone to try something new, I always remind them they can send back anything they dislike, no problem. I've even sent beers back at my own job cuz I simply didn't like it

Man, the Texas locations must really suck. I have never been pleased with anything from the one in Houston or SA. Bad service, worse food, average at best selection, and the quality really is not that good.

I have seen you posts before on their new chalkboard. Looks like they actually try at other locations. Not ours.

I had a bottled Bear Naked Ale last month, then had the same beer on draft a couple of days later and it tasted totally different.... and not in a good way. Could be the draft lines as mentioned above.

Now that so many establishments are offering a multitude of beers on draft (that are hard to keep fresh) occasionally I am coming across beer that has spoiled in one way or another. I never hesitate to send it back, and I encourage the bartender/manager to try it for themselves. There have been times when they have been in total agreement and others when they appeared to think it was fine (but of course exchanged the beer for another anyway.)

I dont send too much back, but occasionally I will send an IPA back for being old.
Was at whole foods dallas a few months ago and got a squatters hop rising on tap, yum. got it and it tasted stale. asked the bartender when they got it, she said yesterday. when was it kegged, should be on the side of the keg... she looked, 8 months ago. ugh. She said wtf, we should have never accepted this keg.
    I hate stale hops.

"FLATOW: And, you know, one of the big choices you make, when you go into a restaurant, they have all these beers on tap, and then you have another dozen bottles of beer. Is it better choose the on-tap, like people normally do? I mean, you say, well, it's on tap. It's got to be fresher, blah, blah, blah. No?
Prof. BAMFORTH: Some people say to me you've got 30 beers to choose from, which do you choose? I say one in a bottle, because the really important thing is beer will deteriorate if you're not careful, both flavor-wise and microbiologically. So you've got to keep it moving.
And if beer's on tap, unless it moves fast through those taps and is served and also the beer lines are kept clean, there's going to be a problem.
Beer in a bottle is more stable. Beer in a can is even more stable than it is in a bottle, both in terms of the - obviously, resistance to light, but also you don't get any air creeping into beer in a can."

I'm a softie, if this happened to me I'd just not drink it then ask the waitress for something else, if she asked if something was wrong with the beer I currently had I'd tell her, otherwise I'd just move on with the next beer she brought.

This is quite probably the answer. Especially since your description doesn't really match a beer gone bad, or dirty tap lines. "Diluted or something" probably indicates your appreciation for beer has changed.

Some of the successful chalkboard entries have become regular lineup beers - SCULPIN IPA for example.

Yardhouse is a favorite target among many self-styled beer connoisseurs because they have so many mainstream crafts and so few niche beers that are only enjoyed by people who prefer barnyard flavors or tooth enamel removing levels of hops, or whatever extreme example is currently in vogue. The large number of mainstream crafts translates into taps moving regularly for them as a business. It works. The general public is not BA's. The general public would not drink 100 taps of extreme, niche beers. The chalkboard is a great compromise because it's around 5-10 taps depending on location, and they move through them rather quickly (week or two in my experience). So this is a compromise that is fine with me. Also I enjoy the food and usually great service, and it's more family friendly than the vast majority of "beer bars". Again, win for me.

It wasn't a bad beer but perhaps a wrong pour. Yesterday at the Beer Authority in NYC, I ordered a Brown Shugga. Now it's been 2 years since I've had one but I could have sworn it wasn't Brown Shugga. First of all, it was a darkish straw/golden color and I recall Shugga was quite a bit darker - and not opaque. And the last time I had it, I recall a sweet after taste from the Shugga. This tasted more like an IPA. I didn't say anything since it's been 2 years and perhaps my recollection isn't correct and I also enjoyed what I was served. But now I need to go get a bottle or another draft to see if it is the same. Anybody else care to weigh in?
