I feel like trading beer and selling beer for profit are 2 very different things in terms of a craft ethos and in what is a hobby for most of us.

I totally agree, which is why I admin and do my business in a group that doesn't allow sales above retail pricing: CCBE Exchange (IP Trades Only)

I used to feel the same way but I met some people who were happy to buy bottles on the secondary market. They wouldn't have been able to try if not.

Trading can be pretty bad too now though. Trades above $4$, trying to win instead of being fair.

If More went to BPT, people would still bitch...That site is horrible.

Maybe I'm in the minority , but I enjoy waiting and sharing brews with people. Yeah it takes time , yeah I'm up early but I want the beer to drink myself or share and I'm willing to put in the time and effort

I disagree. I think trading has become as bad as selling the past few years. If one is waiting in line with sole plans of trading a good portion of their alottment, I don't see a difference.

I don’t get the butthurt on selling/buying for these prices ($100-$200). Getting in line at 4am will put you in line 7 hrs before doors. If you feel that your time is valued at $15-$20 an hr you’re right on. There are plenty of people that probably value their time way more than that and is why they don’t show up and pay the $200 online.

There’s also plenty that do value their time more and just enjoy the beer line aspect of it (especially if sharing some beers with new neckbeard friends).

Just because it’s beer that people want to drink, people complain about it. But this is just a fact of life, people want more money. Nobody loses their shit when people turn around beanie babies or LEGO sets for profit.

I respect that point of view. To me it’s two normal-ish craft beer consumers helping each other out. $200 beer sales do give access to people who can’t get the beer but that’s not an average craft beer consumer buying it. I admit, I’ve occasionally bought on * as a middle class earner.

Here is my take on it....as far as public urination, I saw one guy that apparently couldn't wait for the Port-a-John and was too lazy to walk to a number of businesses. I was walking back from McDonald's and he was on the northside of the park district field house. I didn't catch up to him before he finished and then hightailed it out of there or I would have said something. This is not cool and could be a major problem. Also, if I put myself in the residence's shoes, I'd be pretty ticked on a Saturday morning at 6:30 if people are being loud and playing music and disturbing my sleep. Most neighborhoods you can't even cut your grass before 9:00 on weekends. Also, I understand one of the neighbors was yelling at folks the last time over the noise and the fact that he was trying to sleep. Then there is the fact that people wouldn't stay off the trail. The More guys even asked people to get into the grass and then 10 minutes later people were on the trail. Runners and bikers were swerving off into the grass to get around people. Again, that's a problem, even if it's only for a 1/3 of a mile. If this keeps up, I don't see it continuing. Either it will be BPT/Eventbrite or no notice releases. Either would probably be fine and I'd gladly pay the ticket fee to not have to sit outside in the cold for 4 hours, but of course that doesn't mean I'd be guaranteed to get anything since it's luck of the click. As far as the garden shop owner, she was taking photos and who knows, maybe she is going to use them to complain. What she said was that she was taking them because her friends don't believe her when she says folks line-up for beer. She didn't come off as somebody that was upset.

It's not a beer nerd problem, it's a people problem these days, but it's too bad that folks can't show some common decency. Keeping it down until 9:00, staying off the trail, and using the Port-a-Johns isn't actually that much to ask for. In any case, I bet the Boy Scouts are happy. Those guys were making some serious cash.

Except it is a beer nerd problem. Beer releases are the only item where drinking while in line is not only common place, it’s almost expected.

When people line up for sneakers, iPhones, electronics, etc, the people in line are not standing around drinking for hours.

B71 nailed it! I'd be shocked if another release is allowed without major changes. Consistent blocking of the path and many people who think it is fine to piss wherever the hell they want was shamefull. Most people were very cool but enough acted like fools that I'm sure there will be many complaints to the cops. It's a shame a few will ruin what could have been a very cool scene.

I was in line just west of those townhomes and was thinking "Even as a beer nerd, I'd find this annoying so early on a Saturday morning if I lived here."

Online tickets solves the mule problem but encourages the bot programmers. Neither Eventbrite nor BPT use those "captcha" things, do they?

You know who else was happy? Every business in that area who made a month’s worth of revenue in one morning. I mean, come on. I totally understand what you’re saying and i scold the assholes who aren’t considerate of the neighbors and town as much as you, but it’s one day. ONE day out of two full months. It’s not like this is happening every day, or every week or even every month. The inconvenience for one morning is worth the revenue to the city and its business (and its boyscouts) I guarantee it.

So by "every business," you mean McDonald's, the convenience store and the hot dog man? I mean, I love a good feed store and pet grooming shop as much as the next guy but....

My only complaint would be adding more porta pottys next time around...it was a nice improvement over Henna 1...but adding extra porta pottys would help eliminate the need to piss in the woods...the lines for the porta johns were almost as long as the henna line itself.

If you want your wife/GF to keep showing up for the extra allotment, hold your penis so you don't pee all over the place...heard multiple women complain about piss all over the seat during my wait time for the johns....

Welp, now we’ve ventured into the “there’s piss on the seat” complaint part of the program. Stay tuned.

This is actually a legitimate strategy being employed by the neckbeards - they are fighting back against the profiteers to minimize the muling.

It's a genius strategy...."hey guys, piss all over the porta john seat...let's make these mules earn it"
