Thanks for the advice I was already sorta leaning that way since I am into BA stouts but not nearly as enthusiastic about base stouts.

On another note, Ill probly be flying into San Diego airport and ubering from there in case anyone wants to split an uber. (if thats even a thing)

Also is alesmith open to people opening third party beer in their taproom? any corkage fee or policy on it?

Never asked or tried, but going to say 99.9% no.

This would be correct. It is a no. Their license, right now, won't allow for it. Once Cheesesmith is up and running they will have a license that will allow outside beers, but then it becomes up to them whether they want to allow you to open it or not.

Also, I grabbed all 4 laps for wednesday. Should be fun. Always cool to try all variants and see what works, what doesn't, and what exactly the brewer was thinking.

Well, if you want to ram down 8oz each of 4 variants, you do that.

Me? I'm going to try each lap since the empirical evidence of the last several years says it's well worth it.

    Did anyone try DB SS?

Yes, I had it this Saturday.

It's very complex and the port barrels really come through on the finish. It has a wine-like aroma and a certain jamminess. There's a little heat that does come through on the back-end, but not much. Overall, well-put together and a smooth beer. However, I do feel like the flavors clash a little bit too much for me. I still preferred the BA Rye Viet Speedway over it.

I liked double barrel more than a lot of others seem to. Maybe not $40 worth, but if you told me it was BA Chocolate Speedway, I'd believe you. But I agree with the above poster regarding Rye BA Vietnamese. I had the DB, Single Barrel, Rye, and whatever the blend was... Rye far and away my favorite.

    Tyson's blend
    BA Private Stock
    BA Speedway w/ vanilla
    BA Old Numbskull

all were bourbon BA. Vanilla seemed a tad muted imo. Still delicious.

I opened another bottle of Rye BA Vietnamese over the weekend, and that beer has been superb every time. I feel like that beer does not get the recognition it deserves...although I think I still prefer BBA Vietnamese to it.

I could've sworn Boxcar was part of the blend as well... am I mistaken or thinking of something else that was available?

Something else might have been available, but boxcar was not part of Tyson's blend. At least not initially. The blend very well could have changed but what I posted is what it was when they first put it on draft 2 weekends ago during the DBSS IP sales.

Boxcar is part of the Hot Rod blend.

Keep in mind if you want to do all the laps of Speedway that this is great if you are excited by trying a bunch of crazy flavors. In past years when I used to pay for all the flights I would bring two friends and split them because we would each enjoy one the others didn't. Less beer waste that way. Take a look at the past lineups to see what sorts of flavors they did before. They also tend to bring out special Speedway variants that they make available for taster pours each day.

Def not worth it. Alot of the laps end up on tap for some time after the event. Just get the vip lap or a couple of vip laps.

DB speedway was only ok. Im trading both bottles away for rye whiskey Vietnamese speedway. That shit is amazing.
