DF120 is not a great example. Apples and oranges, i.e. making that beer incorporates so much more than what a Pumpkin Stout does. Time, energy, overhead, ingredients, (much higher gravity and crap ton of hops!) - all of that adds up to higher cost to make and higher price to recover some profit. Pumpkinator was not an expensive beer to make, relatively speaking. So...to bring it back around, they're able to still make a profit at the current price point.

And if SA is happy at the current price point, and still turning a profit, why do people want it to be higher? Or, at least act like it needs to be pricier.

But if you ask the Brewer, it's "a pain in the ass to make".

Didn't watch the video but I read about having to clean around a 1000lbs of Japanese Pumpkins.

Well St. Arnold has so much time going on they probably can't have their tanks being filled up with one beer. Pumpkinator takes a bit longer to brew, they also got their winter warmer and their christmas ale, not to mention all the barrel aged stuff they are brewing now too. They brew their year round beers, they brew their octoberfest around same time, the summer pills also takes long for them to brew. It just may be a space availability thing. I'm sure they will continue to brew more every year. It's just that people hoard the stuff and the large amount of hype that people go out and buy it out in a day, compared to other seasonal releases that sit for a while...

According to our inventory, Gabriel's San Marcos now has Pumpkinator in stock. Looks like they only got two cases.

Two cases for San Marcos? Weak sauce.

That store needs to clearance less wine/liquor and more beer. Clearance all the 90+ day old IPA!

Where are you getting such kooky ideas from? I'm pretty sure you're the only person that thinks beer should be more expensive. I haven't seen anywhere get "raided like a zombie apocalypse" and St Arnold has been posting on a regular basis via their Twitter account on where to find some. And it's not a seasonal beer, it's a limited release.

I can see where he would say seasonal release with the addition of pumpkin and spices to a stout and, it comes out in October/Fall season. Agreed on all other points.

Whatever. It is what it is. Great beer. I'd easily pay more for this if that extends it's availability for a few weeks vs. 30 min and have the store limit and escort me. Just sayin.

Cantillon has a high bottle price and it doesn't sit on shelves, but that's some serious apples and oranges.

I kinda understand where you're coming from. I'd encourage you to start building some relationships with your beer guy/gals.. It can lead to some opportunities to get info before others, have some held without asking, etc. You take care of them (buy beer), they take care of you.

Beat you too it, here is my unofficial findings
DR9 especially when it was fresh wins the RIS mouthfeel easily, but currently aged DR9 and the 12 mouthfeel are like even, the 11 got the taste but is hard to consider it any kind of stout. I agree with ladyofmuchbeer the batch size of DR9 has to be nearly impossible to recreate on such a large scale.

For example, I bring food in for my beer guy and get my beer without having to beat the mob.

I agree on the thickness. Never had DR9 fresh, but I had some at the last Freetail bottle release and I thought it had the same mouthfeel as I remember the first batch of Pumpkinator.
