Looks like Percival Brewing opened in Norwood yesterday. Anyone try them out?

Widowmaker has a really cool vibe. Big and spacious, so even when it's packed you're not standing shoulder to shoulder, lots of seating, busy bar and they have games scattered throughout. Really welcoming atmosphere.

The regular beer selection is Pale Ale-centric. They have the standards, a sessionable hoppy blonde, a single hop IPA, a Pale Ale and a Double. The best of the bunch is the only deviation the Donut Shop Coffee Stout. It drinks light, but the flavors are dynamite, drinks smooth like a cold brewed coffee.

They have a rotation of small batch beers a Festbier, another IPA, an Imperial Stout. Great stuff, but limited to small pours.

Made it over there last night and the small batch stuff was all gone. The five core beers were just okay, wanted to love em, but didn't. I agree that donut shop and greenbush were a cut above the others. Appreciate the insight

A buddy of mine was at Untold over the weekend for a pre-opening event. Said the spot is beautiful. He was kind enough to pick up a couple crowlers (crowlers - yes!) for me; I’m a fan of the west coast-style IPA so he gabbed East by Northwest and also their stout Vorhees.

Cracked open East by Northwest last night - delicious! Really hits the sweet spot of being piney and citrusy (screams Pacific Northwest hops) with a great supporting malt base. Outstanding execution of an underrepresented style in the local scene. Would be a mainstay in my fridge. Looking forward to the stout, for sure.

I made my visit to Untold Brewing on Friday, opening night. Had an Eleventh Hour and enjoyed it very much. Waited about a half hour in line but worth it. Beautiful place. The indoor area is very cool, being a historic schoolhouse that was restored to look amazing. I enjoyed the patio myself, with the setting sun and perfect October temps.

I am, of course, a bit biased, as I went to high school with the owner and brewer (one of them) but was quite impressed even aside from the bias.

My beer palate is not as refined as most but I can certainly notice the basics, and my Eleventh Hour was a nice a balance, refreshing, and easy to drink for me.

I thought Untold was solid for their opening. Rebecca, their Brown ale, Was my favorite. Carpenter was an excellent pale ale and a close second. Voorhees their stout was also very good. A couple IPAs I had I wasn't crazy about, but you need to knock it out of the park to get attention in that crowded playing field. I think their dark beers is going to be their calling card. Glad to have them so close by

Guess they are still at NEB for the time being? Thought there was a recent NEB photo post that both of them were in.

They had a soft opening for "friends and family" last night. I got an email invite and a plus one for a 5.30pm opening, open bar til 7pm, cash bar after that. I arrived at 6.05pm to find a queue 20 deep and a door man saying they were already at capacity (about 300). Seems they never planned on any kind of rsvp, or ticket, or name check. So when everyone told their mates about it and descended on the place they had no way of determining whether they had been invited.

Anyway, I queued and got in at about 6.40pm and left a crwod of about 200 behind me. Having everyone queue up next to where the food truck was parked meant a 30 odd minute wait breathing in diesel fumes. At various intervals during my wait outside staff members would occasionally walk out, stare wild eyed at the crowd, mouth "holy shit" and go back inside.

As for the tap room. Not bad. Big high ceilings, square shaped beer hall set up. Raised area with sofa and armchair seating at the back. The actual bar was a bit of a disaster. People were sitting at the bar drinking while a huge crowd gathered behind them trying to get a beer. There was 3 or 4 people behind the bar for the 300ish crowd. took about 20 minutes to get a beer. When i went back for my second it was a little calmer, but they had essentially run out of glasses. One person seemed to be constantly working the dishwasher. I had to use my just drank out of glass for my new pint.

So, it looks promising, but it was definitely a bit of a a shitshow last night.

Purgatory Brewery was once upon a time the BA founders’ (Jason & Todd) name for a <very preliminary > brewery in Boston.

Man, that was a while ago.

Former head brewer at Grey Sail and his partner will be opening up Shaidzon Beer Co. in the old Proclamation space in West Kingston, RI. Grand opening is Black Friday but word is there will be beer-to-go only for purchase the day before Thanksgiving.
