Pulled this exert from a recent tribune article, will just leave this here...

"Double Barrel Bourbon County Brand Stout is the “original” version of Bourbon County Brand Stout (released widely in bottles on Black Friday) then aged longer in fresh bourbon barrels. It clocks in at a whopping 17 percent alcohol, and will debut at Chicago’s Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer on Nov. 10 and 11"

I think it's aged in the regular barrels that the entire batch is aged in, they put into "fresh" barrels after that?

This is equivalent to Boulevard's "Rye on Rye on Rye" (where the second and third Rye refer to being Barrel aged in Rye barrels and then finished in fresh Rye barrels). However, GI will of course do it much better, I expect, given that I generally do not like the BA offerings from Boulevard.

This is going to make FOBAB strategy even more interesting this year. Going on Saturday I'll be checking for the reviews from Friday, but the question is - do you stand in the long GI line that will (undoubtably) be snaking around the room to get a taste of double barrel and the new variants or do you use that time to hit multiple other pours while others are standing on line? Decisions, decisions, decisions....

If you live in Chicago its an easy choice. We will have many more opps to taste double barrel.

I wonder how many people would (or would not have) purchased Imbibe for VIP tickets if they had known about DB BCBS and BCBBW Reserve (no longer existing), respecctively. Surely these would have/did play a bigger role for some people (the same way other whales do) much more so than the arguably potentially polarizing Prop/Northwood Variants.

Obviously people chase other whales in VIP, just saying that I am sure BCBS is a huge contributor on many people's whale lists for VIP.

I think the same each year & invariably always see that very long GI line going along the back wall.....

Prior to last year the GI line, though always long, moved very quickly. Last year though...I don’t know what they did to screw things up, but they did.

I believe they went from two serving stations down to 1, but my memory is a little foggy...

    This is correct.

They also had a few vintage beers (Prop 14, for one) that were causing the line to grow to great lengths. My buddy, who just wanted to drink Barleywine, was able to skip ahead in the line several times because folks were just queued up for the next special tapping.

Was typing out a response but @macewank beat me to it, and is exactly correct. Last year's GI set-up sucked and I'd love for them to abandon the rolling tappings and go back to 2 stations at adjacent corners with all or mostly all variants available at once.

I am going with a group of 11 people, 1 person bought VIP, and I attempted to and was shut out because their email was vague. This wouldn't have moved the arrow for me anymore or any less, but who knows if it's actually tapped during the VIP hour.

Yeah I am a bit disappointed they didn't try something a bit more interesting like changing up the barrel type, two bourbon barrels is a bit less interesting than some of the stuff I could come up with.

Just completely brain storming here but I feel like last year's prop with a rum double barrel treatment would take it to another level.

I have never had a Bourbon then Rum barrel. I wonder how those would mesh.

I was told by a reliable source that GI pulled their annual, large sponsorship. It was implied that this also meant they would no longer have a special booth. Can anyone confirm?

interesting.....wonder if that was decided locally or by AB. Could be the smoking gun with the price hike.
