I would agree, but add that Born Yesterday trumps all 3 again this year. I realize it's not a MN beer, but IDRGAF.

As the poster before me, no offense to any local wet hops, but Borne Yesterday absolutely nails it. Reminds me of what Wet used to be. I feel like I’m chewing through a glass of hop cones.

I would rank them like this so far this year:

1- Unmapped Hopdazzle- lighter beer, around 5% but great wet hop flavor and a super clean finish. I want to bathe in it.

2- Castle Danger- great mosiac wet hop flavor, super juicy. Too much $ though.

3- Surly WET - I like it this year

4 - Fair State It's Gold Jerry - very solid, lighter ABV too, could crush all day

    5- Lagunitas- solid as always

6- Indeed - I would rate it higher but I don't like their house yeast

7- Great Divide - solid but nothing stands out

8 - Junkyard Hoptun - no fresh hop character at all

You're not the only one, and I think this is going to be, or may have already become, a big problem for them in regards to continuing growth.

When they first opened I drank a lot of their beer. However, then opened before the boom, and canned in six packs right away. They had little competition, and weren't bad. Now with extreme competition I never buy them retail, and rarely buy them when I'm at a bar.

I think you're right in that it's the house yeast that turns me away. It doesn't turn my off; I don't think most of their beers are bad. It just doesn't make their beers desireable to me. The same can be said about Bauhaus.

Interesting to know I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Interesting. I figured they just used a run of the mill American Ale yeast for all their ales. But after looking at the ingredient list on their website, they do use various different yeasts. For example Let It Ride and Let It Roll use different yeasts from each other.

A15 Independence and American Ale II are both Anchor’s ale yeast. They list American Ale II for beers that have been in the lineup for longer and anything newer lists A15. I’m guessing they swapped suppliers at some point. It’s one of the most popular house strains in the US. The fruitiness is pretty complimentary in malt-forward or aggressively hopped beers, but it gets overwhelming for lighter flavored or old beers. I think it fits their beers a lot better than some of the other Twin Cities breweries that use it as a house strain.

    Which other breweries use that?

I am in total agreement with 4 of your top five- had not had the Castle Danger yet this year. I liked Unmapped- not for the haze fans, just a classic IPA with very nice fresh hop character. Growlers were $12.00!. liked Wet as well, not nearly as friendly of a price point though. It's Gold Jerry, very nice, light refreshing and tasty.
I would put Born Yesterdya at the top of that list.

Is Born Yesterday a Mosaic hop beer?

Fulton is probably the biggest in the metro that uses it as a house strain. Unless you drink it fresh, the yeast dominates the flavor of Sweet Child Of Vine.

People actually still drink that (yes I know, it's probably one of if not their no 1 seller). They make quite a few good beers, but that definitely isn't one imo.

I hated Fulton early on, but they have slowly become one of my favorite breweries in the state. I rarely drink anything from their original lineup.

Spectre, while maybe not as turbid and cloudy as some want, is delicious to me. I drank an entire 4pk in a row.
