    Hey Guys,

I recently found a really cheap, on sale, bomber of rum barrel aged Pumking from Southern Tier and I was planning on cellaring until next Halloween. I wasn’t sure if the deep pumpkin spice flavor could diminish over that time, or if aging would do this beer any good, Interested in your thoughts...

    Thanks!

    Chris

I would absolutely NOT age it. I haven't had this year's version, but the rum has been barely present in past versions, and the pumpkin will definitely diminish. I would never cellar a pumpkin beer. But then again, there are very few beers I would ever cellar. The most "cellarable" beers generally don't get better, they just don't diminish as much. Still, even if you like to save beers, I think this is one of the worst candidates for cellaring.

I don’t have much experience cellaring beers, but my thinking is that with the booze and all the spices, collaring would be quite a risk as it might lead to a stale mess of miscellaneous pumpkin spices. I had the beer and it’s definitely good enough fresh anyway. I say just drink it now and enjoy!

I agree with the first comment. I had a fresh one last year and barely got rum at all. I was pretty disappointed. I don't see any reason to save this one for a year unless you have way too much beer you are wanting to drink first.

Cellaring any beer will often cause some flavors to fade, and not always favorably. When a flavor fades, it enhances other flavors. If you prefer the non-faded flavor to the faded flavor, then you will like it.

Drink it fresh - Rum and Pumpkin sound excellent.

Or you could pick up another bottle. Have one for now and then save the other for later.

Pass on that, it was ok but would never hold up to aging. Drink it fresh.

I haven't had that one, but I just had Schlafly's rum barrel aged pumpkin. It's a 4 pack, perfect for cellaring a couple bottles, but I'm drinking them all this fall/winter. The spice will just fade.
