I second this. I live down the block, and the consistent improvement really was apparent. FR went from a nice place with good food and ok beer with a cool concept, to one of my favorite places to drink in Illinois.

Sure the hoppy stuff has been great, but to really nail the experimental beers, while keeping in concept was really impressive.

Congrats on the new gig, BJ. Thanks for your transparency into the whole process over at FR. It was refreshing and pretty cool to see the evolution.

Is there Brett in Simplification? Reminded me a lot of Bahnhof Berliner Brett Lambicus. Not really the usual clean lactic sour, wheaty berliner flavor profile.

Wild announcement for sure that BJ is leaving. I just went to FR yesterday for the first time (I am in the burbs - still no excuses!) Been hearing of FR on here for a while and knew they were a player in NE IPAs. Sorry to hijack anything, but here's my review.

Very cool building, love the brick and old wood. We went late afternoon/early evening and it was pretty busy. Just went for beers, but heard the food was very good and it looked and smelled great from some folks down the bar.

Beers were great as well - my favorites were the ginger wheat ale, so damn refreshing - this was an exceptional light, crisp beer. The strawberry-basil hefe was also great, I had to get a full pour after a 5oz. taster. I thought the hefe was a softer taste, but mixed with the strawberry-basil transformed to an almost lemonade without the sourness. The english mild was pretty good as well, I forget it's name though, but was the only mild on the taplist.

I'm a huge of fan of berliner weisse', but didn't care for the house tap, maybe a little too funky in the smell haha... guess I'm still craving the early releases of Noon Whistle's FaceSmack. We also tried 5oz pours of the imperial stout - decent, but certainly a "heavy" feel and taste as an imp stout.

For IPAs/NE IPAs - I only tried a 5oz of the Frame & Canvas. Was solid as most NE IPAs are for me, however I may like more of the fruitier tasting ones. Plus I'm more into other styles vs. IPAs so we didn't try any other IPAs.

Roundup - great place, nice atmosphere. We'll be back and will get food next time.

I'll be there tomorrow for sure, but I'm hoping to just get cans and head out as I gotta get home due to prior obligations. So depending what time I get there after work, I may have a Frame and Canvas at the bar and then grab cans and go.

 

@KrajDoesBeer any word on the tap list for tonight or did i miss it somewhere?

 

Two new ML variants on tonight. Red IPA will definitely be on. Might do a variant of another beer TBD.
