Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

Ah. It must be 2 years then. A local store (in Bloomington Indiana) saw it 2 years ago just before Black Friday. Last year it definitely hit at least once in Huntsville, Alabama. They apparently got enough that it had a "no limit" on it - whereas they normally ration most drops. I just assumed it had seen distro for awhile.

I love the Facebook post announcing the release at the brewery. They list a '10 case' limit per person on BA 1050 lol...must be plenty to go around.

You know there was one guy that was gonna but a case or 2, and then thought, “fuck it, it’s limited. Bettter get the full allotment”

 

10 case limit is crazy (even at 12 cans/case). I can't imagine dropping $1500 in one sitting on beer (excluding purchasing Java). Also, I can't imagine drinking that much BA 1050. It was good, but I'm personally partial to BCBS. I can imagine buying a lot of BCBS if I had the opportunity, but at 10 cases, that's 120 beers. That'd be 10 BA1050/month. I can't imagine drinking that much myself of any beer. I guess it's nice for people who might band-together and send 1 person to grab enough for an entire group?

 

Anyone headed to off color mousetrap opening today for dinosmores?

 

New OC mousetrap is a nice space. Coffee dinosmores 16 tasted nice. ba ds was not on tap at open, which was lame.

Binny’s LP has tons and tons of darkness 17 sitting out. They also mentioned they were supposed to have that surly event a week or so ago, but surly cancelled and then didn’t take it off their website. Lame!

 

The Beer Cellar got a few cases Of Dino Smores in. They also just got Orin, for anybody who is interested

Good drops at The Beer Cellar two days in a row. They got Black Note and BA Smash Tun from Alter today.

1 bottle/person of the Black Note - they only got one case

 

Stout season costs continue to spiral out of control. OB announced a few days ago national distro of BA Ten Fidy again this year. Assuming we'll see it again. Would love to try that Java version some day...

Sorry if I missed it earlier but any word on Black Note hitting the NW burbs? Also drank a 2017 Darkness last night and thought it was fantastic. Agree price point is high but it's an excellent non-BA stout. Not sure why I age these (have one back to 2013) but going to drink them in quick succession now because I doubt they are improving.

 

They can get less hoppy which is an improvement. My 2015 turned into a chocolate covered raisin. My 2016 aged a year and still seemed hoppy (somehow). Not sure about aging beyond a year or 2 but I see some benefit to some short term aging

 

I'm going to work my way backwards over the next few days and see where it falls off.

Just couldn't resist the temptation for a strawberry smores cuvée as long as I had Market Rate open and fresh Dino on hand!

 

Good god. How was it?

 

Very damn tasty! Dino is thick and smooth this year and the green strawberries are the perfect compliment to it to lighten the viscosity. Couldn't get Henna so I'll make my own.

 

I'm curious as to how Fun Size (not the marshmallow) is tasting to others. It seems to me that my palate had to be absolutely perfect to enjoy it thoroughly. Three out of the four bottles from my 4-pack have tasted like three different beers so far.

The first one I opened tasted like a salty, peanut butter mess that I didn't finish. The second bottle I opened seemed perfect - it tasted like liquid Snickers, and I loved it. The third bottle tasted like caramel, and didn't have much chocolate flavor.

I'm curious as to how my last bottle will treat me, but I am looking forward to it.
