How much are places charging for a bottle?

    That's crazy.

This is starting to get out of hand.

I completely missed any bottles last year - not for lack of trying, but I believe it was $21 - $22 so its an increase of a couple dollars. Abraxas is my weak spot - Id pay almost anything for it. :grimacing:

This beer sells out in minutes. It will only become crazy when it starts to sit on shelves due to the price. And I think it has a long way before that happens. Maybe north of $35? Probably not even then. This beer seems particularly price insensitive. It could be because it's a very good beer. Just mentioning an observation is all.

And obviously the price of the beer would not jump from 23-25 to 35 in one year but if it was 21-22 last year it will likely creep another 2-3 next year, etc. I think we can all agree that beer prices in general are rising but some beers seem to creep faster than others

I have to admit I'm a little surprised that Abraxas still flies off shelves like it does. Not saying it's not a great beer, but there are other (in my opinion) comparable stouts more easily available and cheaper, so it's interesting to me how much demand there still is. $20+ for a non-BA stout is pretty hard for me to swallow (Darkness is my all-time fave non-BA stout, and it's still a little painful to shell out $20 for a bottle).

Not really. Its 20 directly from Perennial so a 3-5 dollar markup is not insane.

I would imagine the "insane" was the price itself, not the markup. I remember paying $16 for Parabola a few years back, so it's definitely a little bit of a shock (at least for me) when these prices come out each year.

    It's not the mark-up. That I understand.

$20 was on the edge to begin with.

It's a non-barrel aged beer. Sure, it's not cheap to make, but off color can put out Dino smores in $16 4-packs and still make a profit.

I hear that. I picked up 4 bottles of darkness this year and have yet to drink one. had a pint at bitter pops for my fresh taste but at $20+ a bottle I am going to space these out and prob age at least 1 of them for at least a couple years.
I have never had Abraxas, I am just wondering if I need to thin out a few of my stouts before adding more $20+ bottles to the collection I seem to be acquiring!

If you've never had it, and at least have mild interest in chile stouts, I'd give Abraxas a shot; it's an excellent beer. I'm just not a huge chile stout person, and there are some others that are a little sweeter (which is more to my taste), so I pass on it.

You could always see if Northdown still has it on tap; that might save you a couple bucks.

Can we get some price per oz breakdowns between this and similar beers, please? I need to send this info to my financial planner.

That was 2016, and Coffee Abraxas was only on draft at Northdown in Chicago (as far as I remember).

I was at the actual release in St. Louis for the bottles so I was probably asking that individual when they were there as well.

Wow thanks for the quick reply. I thought this was a dead board and I wouldn't get a reply. Do you know what stores and when in the Chicago area will get 2017 Abraxas? Any coffee draft?

Follow the rest of the Great Lakes board (even if you are from Virginia, I guess???), and you will see that this board is nowhere near dead and you will see posts about Abraxas coming up.
