I'm holding out for next weeks' midweek drop of the Pat LaFrieda collab, made with double dry-aged hops. I'm hoping the 180-day dry-aging lends some nice blue cheese notes to the final product.

Anyone want to wager what time the line is likely to start? Reminds me of the Keynesian beauty contest, where one has to guess what the public perception of "beautiful" is, rather than their own, and so additional criteria comes into play. I imagine most people want to get there just before the time that they think most other people are likely to arrive, but not arrive unnecessarily early. I strongly doubt the line will start the night before like Potatoes.

Hudson Valley Brewery will probably be hit harder because I'm seeing a lot of trade offers.

Weather is going to be miserable as well.

People got to get their lactose IPA fix from somewhere.

You guys are all wrong on the upcoming collab.

    From OH:
In our latest culinary collab, inspired by our friends at Tired Hands, is with Black Tap Burgers. We have a TIPA Candy IPA with a little lactose, some oats for body, hopped with Citra Lupulin pellets and then dry hopped with M&M's, Snickers, and sprinkles.

Other Half and Trillium are my two favorite breweries, but when is the stupidity of people lining up early going to finally runs its course? There is a damn good chance this collab will be no better or worse than anything else each of one these breweries puts out on a regular basis. I saw the video of that last collab release, people need to have their heads examined for getting there so early or getting on the end of that massive line. Are people so brainwashed or narcissistic that they have to be part of the scene? Granted, there are people who just want the beer to drink, nothing wrong with that, cheers to them.

PS. This thread never fails to deliver, some funny stuff here lately !

You're applying logic to an illogical situation. 2 breweries of great lore coming together to produce a double IPA with a hop called citra has never happened before...and may never happen again. You must factor in FOMO into your equation, it is a serious condition. The cat instagrammers will be there overnight or in the wee hours of the morning, I suggest you follow their lead to be sure you land the payload!!

In all seriousness who knows, but I'd wager the line will start Friday night.

The IG post has over 100 comments. Wonder what that line is going to be like.

In my humble opinion, there is enough good beer out there that if you wait in line for this beer, it is for the novelty, not the quality. I'd have no problem waiting in a normal OH Saturday line or going to a weekday release but can't see myself doing a 5 am or earlier Trillium line again.

Again, not disparaging anyone who goes. I can completely understand the fomo and the novelty and I guess the trade value.

DDH double mosaic hasn't been canned since June. They'd rather jam more lactose down your gullet

Am I wrong in thinking that the low limits will mean there’s beer for everyone, regardless of how many people line up however early? I don’t want to be naive and say “great job OH” (there’s still time to announce a can release in Buffalo) but mildly annoying quadruple variant element aside, it would appear there’s plenty of beer for everyone.

Common sense would say yes, but that could be some wishful thinking. I doubt everyone will max out though, there would have to be a shitload of people there to clean them out, but never underestimate people's tenacity to get these beers.

Hot take, Batch 1 of DDH DMDD was better than any of the recent batches of DDH DMD. I do think they are going a bit overboard with the oat cream beers though, they're too rich to drink more than a little of.

In other news not only citra related, DDH Mylar bags is back to its old ways of deliciousness.

I mean you know me I’m a cynical mofo. But if people do max out it’s 1.333 cases. If this was a quad batch of one beer with a 1.333 case limit we’d all be saying “oh yeah this will definitely last” (as well as “strange limits” obviously) - I personally don’t see a difference. I mean there isn’t a difference beyond the annoyance of having to buy 4 x 4 packs vs just 1 if you’re dead set one trying then all. Which I’m not.

Kid all you want about sugary adjuncts, but OH did register a label for a stout collab with AZ Wilderness called Taking Candy From Strangers...

Personally, I don't have a problem with experiments in culinary IPAs. I recall an interview with Jean from Tired Hands (arguably the creator of the style) talking about the Milkshake series and how it basically came from a desire to play with simple, childlike flavors that almost everyone is familiar with. The process by which they're created is actually pretty complex (not just dosing an oated DIPA with some lactose), but part of the goal is to make something that evokes those "easy" flavors that make people feel comfortable and nostalgic while maintaining the drinkability and recognizability of a hoppy IPA. Undoubtedly, OH observed the market's reception to TH milkshakes and has chosen to ride that wave itself with its own "Oat Cream" style, and I do think it's worked out well for them--so much so that, from naming conventions to label design, the brewery's entire brand focus seems to have shifted in a much more playful and childlike direction (starting sometime around that Broccoli label).

That said, I do find that there has been an even more intense shift as of late toward straight-up candy- and dessert-focused hoppy beer--and not just at OH. LIC released a DIPA called Triple Candy last weekend. Finback has recently released IPAs inspired by lollipops and Neapolitan ice cream. Grimm has their Pop! series, Hudson Valley's doing their sour candy IPA thing, etc. etc.. To me, the big question that looms is whether or not what started as a fun, somewhat gimmicky experiment will ultimately become the standard. OH's dessert-y IPAs do seem to be some of their most highly rated on the fan sites, so it does make sense for them to continue to focus in on them.

Given the limits and the fact that these beers are going to mostly be the same, what are the chances that you won't be able to stroll in at 11am and get a pack?
