Well, there's thread shitting and then there's social media blitzkrieg. Given that all but one of your posts relate to this brewery, it smells a little bit.

I try to stay open minded and enthusiastic about new breweries. I'm willing to give them all a chance, and am happy to see new growth and try new beer. It's hard for ANYONE to start a new business, and having gotten to know several brewers, I certainly don't envy them the task of managing way more than just their recipes and hop contracts. I mean, look at Tree House and their current wastewater issues. Brewery life is hard, yo.

However, I suspect this whole thing may be putting up red flags for other BAs having witnessed that other regional gypsy/contract brewer upselling his wares on social media to sell cans. One bad apple spoils the barrel and all that.

I just did a quick google search “how to open a brewery in Massachusetts” and came up with a bunch of results. Mass brewers guild even did a workshop in the summer at jacks abby with a speaker/guest list including founders of night shift and castle island. As well as lawyers and tax people.

I’m not saying it’s easy by any means, but I feel like there are plenty of new breweries popping up, and having success. So far from vitamin sea there’s been some small distribution to people in the know, hiring of an artist for a logo, an Instagram account, some talk on BA from those who have tried it, and what else?

I have nothing against them but if they want to open a brewery they certainly can do it anytime, so what’s stopping them?

The “issue” is just a way for the Town of Charlton to try to get more money, there is not issue and that “issue” was already addressed. The head of the sewer commission is being investigated by the state ethics commission for illegally building a sewage run off at the towns expense for his business.

And still, the brewery faces problems as a result. Ones they'd not have forseen or planned for.

Pretty much about $1 mil to open in the area. Like I said not as easy if you’re doing everything by yourself without a financial backer dropping that money for you.

It’s a minor hurdle when your brewery is bringing in $30-50 mil a year.

Of course, the minor issue of traffic in Waterbury didn't close Alchemist down or anything...

Alchemist never has had the crowd Tree House has had period. The fact that TH can move 100-200 customers an hour and still have a constant line of 200-300 customers is something no other craft brewery can claim. Again those are only facts. 2-3k+ customers a day.

You’re also comparing apples and oranges. What is the population of greater Waterbury compared to the greater Worcester/Charlton area? I’m going to guess about 50k as opposed to about 500k. And the roads for Charlton are similar to access to Alchemist, that’s just poor planning by Mass DOT to approve that.

Haha, you're ridiculous. What does this all really have to do with a brewery that won't open doors or sell beers outside of IG? I've never as a consumer bought beer from social media. If they had tap lines, I'd seek one out. I think I've been less dismissive than others, but you're still all up my shit. Normally I'd have ignored your defensive ass but I'm in a mood today... Lucky for me, it's not my normal state  Seems like you have some problems I'm not looking to fix, bro.

I’m sure you read earlier that they are not selling their beer, they can’t until they get their license which is in process. It is currently given away. Say hi to Scott for me, cheers!

That’s the difference between being a home brewer and running a brewing business. But I do still think that number is high. There are plenty of places that start out very small and I can’t imagine it’s 1 mil to start out. Granted I know nothing about the subject! Did treehouse have that kind of money in brimfield?

Brimfield property is a fraction of metro Boston not to mention if Damien’s in laws didn’t have a farm in Monson they would have been shut down in Brimfield due to the issue with the town going after them. TH also had a financial backer (John), he is in the old pics on the their site.
That estimate is on the high end but at least $500k for a space and equipment to open in greater Boston easily.

500k is a teardown in greater boston these days, I'd assume way higher than that.

They’ll be opening on the South Shore which is why I was leaning towards $500k instead of $1mil.
