The Half-Acre thread (2018)

Spot to plug Big North here, but you could literally have drank benthic and benthic variants (while they lasted) all day at big north this year (and I came close to doing just that myself). I think that’s one of the better beer events we have, and they certainly bring out the whole arsenal without too much worry of something kicking (except benthic variants).

Great party.

 

I've never been (timing didn't work this year), but am planning on going next year. It sounds awesome, and I'm pretty sold on HA's BA stuff at this point (obviously I know/like what I'm getting with their hoppy stuff).

 

This is a can't-miss beer. Head to the tap room and try it if you haven't already. I'm glad there's more of it out there this year so as to limit the potential insanity of a secondary market.

I will say that I really enjoyed the glass of Benthic I had this afternoon at the taproom. I didn't think that last year's was that special (granted, I didn't have try it until the spring, so I never had it fresh). This definitely had more coconut with a nice coffee presence, and seemed better balanced with the barrel. Body seems slightly thicker too (I could be wrong here). But I'm definitely happy with it.

 

I should’ve mentioned how cool it was that Half Acre was generous with samples as always. You could have these 2oz pours of Benthic or Orin and likely multiples of either. Plus samples of anything else on draft. They didn’t just allow it, they really encouraged it. A little thing but a nice thing. Plus their stuff at the registers is always as friendly as can be

 

If only all these slugs selling their bottles on forums bought 1 or 2 bottles a lot more people would have gotten one aka me. Curse them all!

 

I mean, why not mix them?

I could've swore they were $12-$13. Sadly they were sold out by the time I made it in.

Stood in line. Drank free samples. Got Benthic. Got a glass. Drank some on draft. Ate nachos. Hung out with friends. Drank more on draft. So much better than being at work. Killed myself.

Half Acre brought the truth at Fobab tonight: Benthic great as ever but the peach/mint sour was one of the most drinkable & unique things offered tonight. #FOBAB

 

This is why I always love going to Half Acre on release days. Always such a good vibe (and good music).

Was busy yesterday morning and had no intention of waiting in line for hours, regardless. But saw the tweet around 2:30 when I was free that there were 18 cases left and only a line inside so decided to go for it. Made it there, got the bottles and was back home all in 45 minutes.

First Benthic ever for me going to be cracked in about 4 hours!

 

TWIB Notes:

• Great time in line despite the weather. Hope my new bud who slipped and fell and sent his vape pen flying is okay.
• Cracked my last '16 Benthic at our Fuck FOBAB share last night -- it was 12.7 percent v. the 14 percent listed on this year's batch.
• Love the copious sample pours and how cool they were with us taking multiples in the gift shop.
• The glass is super baller. I assume they had way more than 100 produced and that it will be included in a gift box to be released before Christmas?
