I'd be willing to guess there's going to be a lot of this. I mean, Jewel is freakin' blogging about it. My guess - if you are on it on 12/1 or the days after whenever it finally hits distro you'll be able to get it. Who knows, might even find it at Target next to the '15 Rare this year...

Maybe I'm being overly positive here (not a natural personality trait for me FWIW), and completely underestimating the shit storm that will ensue. We shall see.

Ya, kind of saw this coming. Founder's wouldn't do CBS again unless they got it right. They're making a ton, and getting it to everyone. When I saw they had enough for 48-state distro, plus 2 full release weekends, you just KNOW there's gonna be a ton of tickets and they won't sell out right away like a DLD. And that's fine! That's how it should be. I fully expect people to be able to snag this on release day in stores and it will be as plentiful as KBS was, if not more. It won't last for days, or even 24 hours at most places, but if you're on top of it, you'll get some. And cherish it too, cuz we won't see this again for a while I assume.

I think it is virtually impossible for them to have as many Maple Bourbon barrels as they had Bourbon barrels for KBS. -But in principle I understand what you are saying. I truly hope it is not a "blink and you'll miss it" release.

Absolutely. It was posted in one of the other 2 threads on CBS a few days back. This is where the issue of 3 different threads on the same beer gets problematic.

Holy shit. Every Jewel in IL getting this? That's so much CBS. Gonna be a shelf turd, what up!

Not all Jewels, but certainly that's quite a few. I was surprised myself. Even One of the downstate ones in Bloomington is getting it. Now, if all these Jewels are having it on 12/1 (according to their post), I sure hope my favorite proper shops do.

EDIT: Too bad the one I grew up working at as a strapping young lad isn't getting it. Not sure why that matters.

The one I worked at for a summer in college *is* getting it. May send mom and dad there to get me my Christmas present!

It says starting 12/1, so it’s possible they won’t all get them 12/1.

I know it didn't hit distro, and CBS has dominated the news feed lately, but anyone else think Tank Bender really flew under the radar? Having one now, and it's pretty decent. It's a very boozy 15%, but the flavors are nice.

I'd have loved to try one, I just didn't even try with what it seemed like most were wanting. I love that style, but I just wasn't willing to pull the trigger. I suspect this is the reason it flew under the radar to some degree. (Plus this style isn't hip right now.)

Flying under the radar is a great way to describe Tank Bender. Part of this impression came from the release taking approximately one to two weeks to sell all the bottles at Founders. Also, at least for me, is that I had the eisbock at Founder's almost a year ago and while it was OK, it was just OK. However, the barrel made this OK beer to me really shine.

Just way too many great beers to try these days...

Stopped by Founders yesterday and they still had Tank Bender for sale.

That might be true. I just called the Jewel in Elmhurst (York Rd) to see what the limit is...and the guy in the liquor department had no idea what I was talking. "I've never even heard of that beer", he tells me.

Considering his location is set to receive a shipment of CBS in as little as 2 days...you would think he'd know about it.

I've found you often have to talk to the RIGHT person in the liquor department at Jewel. There's a difference between someone that works there and handles the stuff as opposed to the guy who does the ordering and sees what is coming. Next time, ask if there is anyone who knows what is expected to come in...you'd think there has to be someone handling that.

Yea, that's got to be it. I ended up calling the second location in Elmhurst, and that person there had no idea either what I was talking about. But luckily she was smart enough to hand the phone to the guy in-charge of receiving, and he confirmed they should be getting it 12/1.

As much as Founder's has pushed the Dec. 1 date, I don't believe most stores will actually have it for sale on that day. I'm 2 hours aways from the brewery and my nearby stores have already stated they won't receive it until the following week. And when it does hit, I have a strong feeling there will be plenty to go around.

This is one case where I really hope the price is high enough to deter some people from hoarding so as to allow more people to get 1 bottle.
