Yeah, well these are "ginger dead" cookies my daughter did. The issues apparently never end.

I used to drink tons of Rhinelander lager back in the 70's when I was young and not too brilliant. It was $3.10 for a case of 24 if you brought back the empties. Am I glad those days are over.

Happy New Atwater Brewery Beer Sunday (Week 664), Part II!

Wow! Today moved more quickly than I had originally envisioned. I have collectively enjoyed their beers more today than at any point in the past. I followed up my opening salvo with a revisitation of one that seemed brand-new as compared to its original iteration:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15280/80199/?ba=woodychandler#review
    [IMG]

I then got back with/on the program and had something of theirs that was actually new to me, with all others to follow in its lead:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15280/213498/?ba=woodychandler#review
    [IMG]

Okay, so it was not all that, but then, along came:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15280/215190/?ba=woodychandler#review
    [IMG]

Things were really looking up, so I continued the day with a beer that was bound to be in my wheelhouse:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15280/179417/?ba=woodychandler#review
    [IMG]

Eureka! I then pulled out one that filled me with a strong sense of deja vu, but since no review existed, it had to be new to me on this site:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15280/86384/?ba=woodychandler#review
    [IMG]

Mmm. Dessert beer! My last Atwater of the day was:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15280/210711/?ba=woodychandler#review
    [IMG]

And now what? The day is, well, not young, but still only in its middle age. I was in Michigan so I might as well remain there:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/335/220830/?ba=woodychandler#review

and I finished my day with:

    One more for today.

Pours dark brown with a couple fingers tan head that left lots of splotchy lacing.
I have a mild cold and a stuffy nose but get the chocolate, coconut, maybe a bit of coffee and vanilla.
Taste follows, roasted malt, some coffee notes up front, followed with chocolate and lingering coconut.
Feels light bodied with a good bit of carbonation.
Overall another tasty Oscar Blues brew that I would gladly try again.

Well, winding down the night with the USWNT soccer match on versus Canada. Early goal by Ertz has us up by 1.

This is Deadly Rhythm by Pale Fire, an American Pale Ale.

Pours a hazy, dark orange color with a thick, fluffy white head that slowly fades down, clinging to the glass. Smell is grapefruit, orange, bread malt, and a little pine. Flavor follows, dominated more by the malt and a little earth flavor with the pine and citrus flavors more as an accent. A little on the bitter side for an APA. Medium body. Lingering bitterness. Not a bad little APA, balance is a little off but it's still certainly drinkable.

Cactus DIPA by Tilted Barn Brewery. Canned 10/16/17, lovely fruity hop notes of mangos and peach. Very soft yet dry mouthfeel. Love the label art (I miss Saguros/Tucson) and I love the beer even more. Cheers!

Like I said, I had one more in me for today:

The aroma followed through a nice blend of coffee beans, coffee grounds, dark chocolate nibs, smooth clean caramel malts, delicate roast with a sticky milk chocolate strolling in underneath.
The flavor presented a fair blend of sweet to roasty coffee beans/grounds to the dark and milk chocolate qualities. It got slightly rugged in the aftertaste as it seemed to me that the "coffee grounds" grabbed it a bit more. Did I mind that? Not really, I have to admit that I liked it.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV seemed to feel just a touch under, but I wasn't bothered by that. Nice roasty yet smooth to slightly sticky coffee bean and grounds to the milk and dark chocolate sort of finish.
Overall, very nicely done imperial porter that I would love to have again.

Also, I will miss you folks next Sunday as I will be with my parents, headed back to PA for Thanksgiving vacation. Hoping to be back in this thread for NBS #666, as it doesn't seem like its one I should miss.

Keep on keeping on, all you fine folk!

Nice job! That was a wicked curveball but you handled it well. I found that the coffee dominated the flavor a bit much myself, but that smooth creamy mouthfeel made up for it.

Greetings from a rather chilly castle here in the kingdom. Nice kick off post as usual from our esteemed @lordofthewiens .

We split the cooking in my house, sometimes we also do the tag team thing but our methodolgy is quite different. I am methodical when it comes to getting the whole mise en place thing going on, my wife is a bit more chaotic. We both love to experiment and try different things, frequently deviating from recipes. Some experiments come out better than others, let us say. One of my favorite things to cook is chicken marsala. Once I learned to do it, it is really easy and always tasty. Plus you get to mash up chicken with a hammer...that is just extra fun. I make hot sauces with home grown peppers and we home can vegetables when we can. We are pretty much omnivores, and pretty adventurous when it comes to foods. We enjoy all sorts of quisine, and we go through spurts where we do eat out quite a bit.

Busy week and weekend. Annual craft fair at our church. The missus and I run the kitchen to raise money for the music program, so Friday and Saturday we were on our feet all day. We saw the musical Fun Home on Friday night to just add to the schedule...a thought-provoking show based on a graphic novel that is based in a true life story and quite dark, well-acted and well sung, excellent stagecraft. Today, bell choir (missus and I co-direct) and vocal choir at service (twas the day for the massive Thanksgiving anthem). This afternoon the choir sang a memorial service for a long-time choir member who recently passed away. Plus I had two 14 hour days at work on Wednesday and Thursday. Age might just be a number, but man we be feeling every minute of it today!

So the beer...no picture due to dead phone and the PITA it is to post a photo with the Eye-pad...but I think everybody knows what an oatmeal stout looks like and the can...well, it is a can. It has a logo and some writing on it... Firestone Walker Mocha Merlin...and my wife and I actually split a 12 ounce beer that is 5.5%.

The smell was pretty strong coffee initially, but the chocolate came on as the beer warmed up. I am finding this happens frequently with me on the chocolate beers. It ends up pretty nicely balanced between the two primary components. I am assuming this is a flavored beer unless somebody can tell me otherwise, meaning it was not brewed with coffee beans or any type of chocolate, but that flavorings were added? I dont really care as long as the "additives" are of good quality. The taste follows exactly with the nose with the addition of some nice darker malts. I do like the slick mouthfeel that seems to be the trademark of using oats...very smooth, but light and lively. Intensely flavored for a low ABV. This is a beer I like, which will certainly influence my score that I think is going to land in the low 4 zone.

Trying to stay awake through the Pats game...not gonna make it. But I am watching Sanders just absolutely torch Malcolm Butler thinking about the contract demands, the nonsense last off season, and the money he thinks he is worth...hmmmm...

Victory winter cheer, cloudy gold orange color. Light carbonation but a decent medium body. Aroma is yeast, spice, and some malt.flavor follows the aroma,a little sweet with a slight bitter lingering taste. Overall it was surprisingly decent and would try this again[IMG]

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip

A: Pours pitch black with a full mocha colored creamy head, lots of lacing, low carbonation, no light comes through when held up, looks awesome.

A: Tons of fresh ground coffee, espresso, French roasted coffee, roasted malts, slight dark fruit notes along with some dark chocolate, aromas are deep and rich, alcohol is not noticeable on the nose, very nice aroma.

T: Follows the nose with lots of dark roasted coffee notes up front, dark chocolate, touch of berries like blueberries and blackberries, almost tastes like a dark chocolate bar infused with dark berries, roasted malts, touch of hops, moderate amount of bitterness like coffee, finish is dry.

M: Full bodied, really smooth such for a big beer, low carbonation, dry dark chocolate and dark coffee-like finish.

O: A full bodied Russian Imperial Stout, lots of aroma and flavor, incredibly smooth for such a big beer, looking forward to cellar the remainder of the four-pack and see how well this ages.

Thanks! We talked to a volunteer at Detroit Lake and she said they drain it every fall. It's completely full by spring and through summer. We got to walk around down where the foundations for the dam builders housing once was.

The funny thing about collaboration beers that exist between two parties in a contract brewing arrangement, is that they pretend that all of their beers that only feature one brewer's name on the label aren't collaboration beers.

This is marketed as a "sour saison." To me, it feels like a cucumber, lime and mint drink that was mixed with lots of lemon juice. Malt is like a ghost. Gets better as it warms when some earthy tones start to quietly peek in. This one is OK but it would benefit from a paper umbrella. Cheers.

Another new New Glarus - Cherry stout
    [IMG]

    Here is my review

    4.35/5 rDev +15.7%
    look: 4.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

This is not a Stout with cherries it is a Cherry Stout with a capital C. It Pours a deep brown with an off white head. The nose is cherry and Raspberry. The taste is of a Tart cherry jam. There are hints of lemon zest. There is some roasty chocolaty malts in the background.
There is a decadence to the richness of the mouth feel.
    A wonderful beer experience.
