Distributors here get their.allocations of special beers based on total sales of that brewey’s line up beers. They then put it out to retailers based on total sales of the brewey’s beers by the retailer. That’s true in some other states I know of. Until this thread I’ve never heard of a state where it is based on sales of one particular beer.

So it is peculiar because it suggests somebody making up different policies on a state by state basis.

    I see.

PA is wierd, I know that for a fact.

That said, i's heard reps for Founders in two states and store owners in 2 separate states confirm that their individual allocations are based off sales of one particular beer. I was told by one of them that their BCBS allocation was also based off Sofie sales.

It was never conveyed that this was a "state" distribution level issue, but a store level rule.

I am honestly interested in better understanding how this all fits together.

First notice that it has nothing to do with whether PA is wierd or not, as I said there is more than one state where it works the way I described. Also notice that the post you first replied too was after a question for someone else who had in a much earlier post said the decision to base the allocation on Sophie was a state-wide situation.

While there are some notable exceptions, typically the Brewery sells beer the beer they made and own to one or more independently owned distributors in a particular state. A particular distributor now owns that beer and then re-sells it to the retailers where they place that brewery's beers (assuming the retailer is willing to buy them). Once the beer has been sold to that independent retailer, the retailer now owns the beer to do with what they choose. Not all sales reps who visit particular retailers regularly are directly employed by a particular Brewery, many are employed by a particular independent distributor and have the job of promoting sales of a number of different beers. So the decision and/or story could originate in any of three places, but seems most likely to me to be from the distributor, the individual sales rep or the retailers themselves.

I believe believe this is true here, I'm not sure you can give 312 or really any of their other beers away. To many better choice here year round to buy that crap for 1-2 bottles on Bcbs.

While you have listed some good beers. I personally think BCBS is better than them all. I’m a huge Bruery fan and So happens it’s tuesday doesn’t compare. Monsters park is great too. But the barrel is not done as well and the mouthfeel. Old school parabola would be a great match. Not as much as the versions the past year or 2.

There is a reason there is entire threads about what measures up to BCBS. It is a great beer. Think what you want of GI but you can’t say it’s not a top of the line BA stout. One that all other good stouts get compared against. Yes there are better ones out there. But for how long BCBS has been out and it’s still the topic of conversations says something.

    I
I am butthurt but not to temper expectations, I’ve gotten plenty over the last few years and quite confident I’d get plenty this year. I’m butthurt because bourbon county use to be my favorite beer and now it’s just not the same. Ever since 15 they have infection problems, was forgiving the first few times but this year the beer iwas looking forward to more then any other beer this year- barleywine reserve yet again is infected. Didn’t think last years pasturized original was up to par and from reviews so far doesn’t sound like this years much better. No, won’t be standing in line

Grit and Grain chapter 12 is up in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.

Its a continuation of the Grit and Grain documentary on Bourbon County from last year.

I've only been drinking stouts for like a year, so last year was the first time BCBS was on my radar. I remember picking up bottles maybe midway thru December, but I live in a very small market and most scoff at the idea of $9 for a bottle of beer, so it sat for a while in my shop.

My question is, does this hit nationwide on Black Friday or is it just a Chicago thing and distribution follows for the rest of the country the following week?

Nationwide on BF. Many locales have release events too. Check your local store for release specifics i.e., lottery, first come first served, secret handshakes, etc.

2015 was the only year they had infection problems. BW Reserve was pulled from the release this year due to not being up to quality - that could mean a number of things. If you have proof of infection, there are a lot of folks that would love to hear it.

Any word on if there's a slightly lower ABV version to release to ass-backward states like GA? Our cap is 14% and everything I've seen says regular clocks at 14.1%.

Strong terminology, and not sure who you are implying did the f**king, but it seems as though OH is to blame, right? Perhaps not calling out individuals, but it's OH with the archaic rule...not GI's issue, as I understand it.

Oh for sure, I agree 100%. I didn't mean it was GI fault, that's just how I talk (honestly).

As in: Are you getting any BCBS this year?

Nope, no beers over X% =(. I'm fucked.

    Or in this case, GA.

AZ is getting our share next Friday, so it sounds like nationwide.

2015 was the year infected BCBS hit distribution and customers had to hit GI over the head with it repeatedly before they reluctantly admitted it.

Indeed. I watched everything up to the new chapter last week. I didn't think it was possible to be more on the proverbial teet than I already was...turns out, I was wrong.
