I'm answering my own question since Pete replied to me on FB. "bottles and cans and soon crowlers will be sold where we hold the can/bottle releases on more regular days/hrs"

Soon crowlers does suggest the taproom will no longer be filling growlers.

Edit: Another reply. Growlers are definitely on hold for a few weeks.

"The restaruant Tapped can do what ever they want but I don't think they plan on doing growlers of our beer. We will have crowlers to go, and eventually we will be able to offer growler fills again out of our space."

Wow ... this looks like the owners of the 2 business had a falling out.
I will be in NYC for 8 days over Christmas, planned on heading up the EQ. But I will have to wait and see how this plays out. Dont want to drive 1.5hrs and get shut out of EQ beer.

what's the real concern here? sounds like no one liked the grille anyway, the brewery will still be making and selling beer, and the restaurant will still have their beer on tap if you want to try it on days the brewery is not open... you just can't get growlers anymore (for now), or hope to come across leftover cans/bottles (which are rare anyway).

I suppose the real concern is what impact will this have on the free-for-all line share on Saturday mornings?

This Saturday 11/18 from 11:30am-4:00pm at our brewery we will be selling dHop1 and MC².
$20 per four pack for dHop1 $18 per four pack for MC²
One case per person of each, limits subject to change.

dHop is our DIPA series that investigates how changing different aspects of hops changes our DIPAs, which will allow us to optimize our hops and hopping procedure. dHop1 is our 8.5% DIPA with an intense mosaic forward hop bill. This is the second release of this beer and we’re very excited about this batch. Applying what we’ve learned from this series, we were able to pull more brightness and blueberry from mosaic than ever before. It pours a very murky tangerine color, releasing notes of bright blueberry, dank-citrus, more dank-citrus, earthy grass, tropical melon. The taste is a juicy piney blueberry, with a chewy mouth feel and a firm but rounded bitterness.

MC² (8.0% ABV) is Photon’s big brother. We literally took Photon’s hopping rate and squared it. This DIPA is our tribute to the amazing relationship that energy and mass are balanced, proportional to the speed of a photon squared. It pours a hazy tangerine color, releasing bright tropical notes of mango, pineapple, and apricot. MC² tastes like succulent mango juice loaded with chewy hop resins.

I was thinking more short term.. Just an unfortunate headache to deal with.

Brilliant move on Tapped"s part to basically operate inside a brewery and then choose to not sell that brewery's beer...

No one should have any concerns about the Saturday morning releases and line shares and great times that we have on Saturday mornings. It's just a business decision regarding the Grille that's all. Business as usual for us Saturday regulars.

Hi Everyone – Pete here, cofounder of Equilibrium with some clarifications on our recent post(s): We understand there is still quite a bit of confusion because well… things are confusing… The single biggest reason we want to make it clear there are two separate businesses is to have things be clearer, transparent, and ultimately remove this confusion moving forward.

We originally set this up in this fashion because Equilibrium Brewery is a company filled of beer people; not restaurant people. We don’t know the restaurant business nor did we want to learn it. We put the “taproom” [downstairs room] as part of the restaurant because it made our liquor license easier and it would be a better experience for the customer [e.g. they wouldn’t have to close tabs if they wanted to go upstairs]. It’s become clear that the two companies have different visions of the future so the name change will: 1) help remove confusion (i.e prevent future occurrences of “this”; and 2) allow each company to pursue their own creative direction. Here’s what all this means in a little more detail:
    • The restaurant will still get Equilibrium Beer; however, they will get less than they have in the past, which was really really a lot of it. They will essentially be like a normal account of ours [right now we have about 100 accounts mad at us for not distributing enough beer… we’re working on it… this will help…]. This is likely the reason they don’t want to do growler fills because they want to save our beer for onsite pours.
    • Equilibrium Brewery never had any tap lines; every growler has been filled by the restaurant.
    • We have already ordered a crowler machine and will hopefully be filling crowlers likely by the end of the month. They will be available several days of the week to help diversify our offsite offerings. Details soon.
    • Yes, we will try and can a bit more.
    • The transactions will take place at the “To Go Sales” location in the figure linked below.
    • Absolutely nothing is changing about the quality of the beer. [if anything the beer is getting better; we finally pulled blueberry out of mosaic for dHop1; pumped about this]
    • The can releases will be unchanged
    • The line shares will be unchanged
    • You’re absolutely welcome to still go next door and enjoy the space; they will just have less of our beer, more of other beer, and a different name.

@pproof thanks for posting to the forum.

Curious about the crowler decision. I'm personally not a fan of them. Why not just can it all? Would be great to stroll in on a weekday and pick up a four pack or two.

Sounds like the brewery is only going to have take away, do future plans include your own tap room?

The crowler decision is simply the easiest way to offer more onsite offerings given our current constraints. I completely agree that cans over crowlers especially considering DO levels; however, we don't have the resources to can so many batches right now and this will at least give customers some more variety.

We are considering multiple options for the future, which we'll announce in the coming months. Please bear with us while we go through this transition, its not fun, but it will lead to good things down the road.

I am seriously stunned that they own the building and didn't set up their own tasting room. That's where breweries get their best margins! I understand not wanting to deal with the food aspect, but why would they lease out the downstairs space, too? They said it made it easier to transfer tabs to the restaurant, but that's not a great reason. They also tried to make it "easy" for themselves using the restaurant liquor license. Wonder how long they have the lease signed for with the restaurant.

Sorry to beat a dead drum - but a bit confused for can days. You show up at whatever time you want and grab a ticket and earlier gets you larger allotment.

You can then just go and do whatever until you have to line up at 11?

You are correct. I would put a chair in the spot you basically are in line so it's easier to lineup once the release starts, even though there is a ticket system. There is a bottle share area around the side of building after you get your ticket. Don't have open containers anywhere else.

On average, what's the latest one can expect to show up for Saturday's release and still go home with 2-4 packs of each beer? Thanks in advance!

Having a Fractal Ekuanot right now. My first beer from Equilibrium. It's incredible. I'll definitely be seeking these guys out in the future.
