Picked up some axeman... should have grabbed * instead.

Are either of those beers showing up on shelves yet?

I haven't seen either of them on shelves in Denver yet. However, I have seen them on tap.
Should've just grabbed both. They're about the same price/oz.

Have not seen them in GJ yet. No * as well.

    Cheers!

Axeman is a great beer, but * is my favorite by miles.

To be honest I sort of shrugged when I heard Surly would be regularly available here. There's just too much competition, and all of the offerings I've had have been "boring' for a lack of a better word. (I've had bender, coffee bender, furious, and a couple others.) Unless darkness was sold around here I'll move to more interesting beers already sold here.

Axeman is great. But not $18 great. Would rather buy a Melvin 4 pack or elevated each time.

This^. I bought a 4 pack of Axeman a few weeks ago for $17 . Now that * is back I wouldn't even consider axeman not only foor the price difference but I much prefer *.

Still waiting to make the comparison to *, but it has not shown up around here in GJ. TTAM is more of a NEIPA brew, totally different than what Melvin puts out.

    Cheers!

I don't get why people complain about the price point of TTAM but praise Melvin * or something similar. It's damn near the same price/oz (unless I'm doing the math wrong, then my bad). Also, TTAM is not even close to a NEIPA...I'll finish this by saying that I haven't been impressed with most everything that Surly has done in the past few years, with the exception of a handful of beers at most. They used to be one of my favorite breweries a while back but they seem to be a shell of their former self unfortunately.

Todd the axeman is very much a west coast dipa. A comparison between todd and * is a fair apples to apples comparison.

I don't think Todd and Asterisk are that similar. The comparisons sorta begin and end with Mosaic. When I want something big and burlier, I'll snag the Asterisk, but that delicious Golden Promise malt and drinkability will keep me reaching for Todd the Axeman every once in a while.

Isn't TTAM a IPA while * is a DIPA? DIPA always cost more.

Even here in Utah we have better locals than BP. Better options than buying Jai Alai too. Hard to imagine there are are too many people still interested in buying beers from CC or BP in a state like Colorado when even in Utah the locals are winning the competition.

I think the fact that they're everywhere helps. For people who are casually into better beer, that matters. The people that tend to just grab Breck, Boulder, Tommyknocker, NB, Blue Moon, Left Hand, etc. are buying BP, too. My local shop (and the Old C's across the street) sell a bunch. Plus, their beers are still quite good. Depending on where your tastes fall, Sculpin is still a top tier IPA and (at least IMO) it hasn't suffered at all.
With Cigar City, I suspect they're shooting for transplants. I think the world of Jai Alai, but there isn't much to set it apart when there are like 100 IPA's at the big shops. I don't see them having anywhere near the impact of BP. They don't have the presence, the shelf space, or the branding.

Saw TTAM for $15. That seems more-reasonable to me. Buuuut.... Alpha Bits. Juicy Bits. Melvin. /end

I have spied cans of Coffee Bender with my little eyes around town if you've been waiting for that one.
