Oh man, we were at a bar in Northampton MA last year, and the only tap list was on a TV screen on this slideshow setting where each page had a different style and there were about 8 slides total so it took 45 seconds for the whole list to cycle through. My first three choices were kicked and the whole ordering process took 5 minutes or more. There's nothing wrong with a chalkboard folks!

This isn't restricted to just a "beer" pet peeve.

This is an everywhere pet peeve.

People that get annoyed at patrons ordering flights when the bar/taproom advertises said flights. :astonished:

What are you drinking, Newcastle or Corona? I'm not aware of craft in clear bottles.

I'd like to know too. I want some clear bottles to put some hot sauce in, but don't really want to buy Corona.

"Sorry honey, I had to buy this beer for the nice clear bottles . . . "

Why bring stuff that anyone in the same state can get a hold of by going into any craft beer store? That was my point.

Isn't that where 99% of the beer drinkers get their beer? Seasonals. Limited releases? What am I missing? Where do you get your beer for a bottle share?

I can see bringing limited releases that are available in your state, but hard to get a hold of. What you're missing is you suppose to bring beers to a bottle share that are not available in your state. I get them from other states. Georgia and North Carolina mostly. And every time I or my family travel to other states, if possible, they bring beer back. I'm also a member of Sierra Nevada's Alpha Hop Society (AHS). You can only get those beers if you're a member.

I must have missed reading the bottle share rules? MA has ( guessing here) more than 100 breweries, some with limited distro. so much , so many, no one could possibly stay current. Our bottles shares are a little more relaxed. No rules. Everyone brings beer. Simple that way. I always bring bourbon. Host provides food. One time I brought 3 Rodenbachs, a 2012 vintage, Alexander, and Caractere Rouge. Another time i brought a 5 year vertical of Sierra Nevada bigfoot, 2 bottles each. Shelf beer just stinks I guess.

Different vintages are fine too. I never said anything about shelf beer. Shelf beer is fine, but not from the same state. Bottle shares are not the same thing as just some friends sitting around and drinking beer.

Maybe your shares are like that but I'd guess that most aren't. I'd agree that bringing a year round beer from a nationally distributed brewery is kind of lame (ie SNPA, Stone IPA). As long as people make an effort to bring something that they think others would enjoy, that's all that matters.

Well, there's nothing wrong with SNPA and Stone IPA and a lot of people enjoy it. But making an effort isn't going into a grocery store and buying a 6-pack or two to bring with you to a bottle share. That's just lazy and greedy at the same time. Bring something nice from your stash (outside your distribution, very limited or/and various vintages (even if they are/were shelf beers at some point)) and have people enjoy something they haven't seen or haven't heard of or something they've been wanting to try to a while.

" Biggest beer pet peeves" Making beer seem bigger than" just some friends sitting around drinking beer" Guess I'm doing it wrong? Unless i"m on vacation or on a bike trip, all the beer I buy is on the shelf in my state. Worked that way for me since 1980 or so. Hmmm.

Okay! So, you bring nothing but shelf beers available in your state to bottle shares. Gotcha! Once again, sitting around and drinking beers with friends is NOT a bottle share. Never been to a bottle share at a brewery or a brewpub, where you don't know 99% of people?

^^^^ Nope. Bottle share for me? Go to someones house. Core group and usually some friends. Everyone brings beer. Drink beer. MA rules would probably prohibit out side beer being consumed at a licensed facility not sold there. Wait, what? Different states have different beer laws? Who knew? Next you'll tell me peaches and pulled pork are good eats

You sir have a problem with Goose Island (only the beer nerds will get your point.)

I would be more than happy to sip on Bourbon County, but since they got swallowed up by ABV, we are stuck with their IPA, honkers ale and so forth.

So a beer PP? Pretty much everything has been summed up before for me.

If I should name one: the price of anything from Prairie (their products are delicious, but way overpriced)

What if it's a shelf beer from across the border in another state? I live in Iowa, so something like Nebraska Busch Lite?

I actually get your point; I'm just being funny (?)

But there's actually a lot of nice beers in state that aren't exactly "shelf" beers. OR don't stay on the shelf for more than a couple of hours.
