Anyone go to the Jewel at 370 N. Desplaines downtown last year? How early were they lining up? I have to work on Black Friday but this is fairly close to my work and I might be able to swing it. Thanks.

Irrespective of lines, I think you're extremely underselling the difficulty of pulling off an overnight beer event and it's completely different than say a street festival in wrigleyville on a summer weekend. Beer Nerd Hoth Sleepaway Camp is nice in theory, but in that form I'd give it a 0% chance of ever happening.

Now, if they ticketed it for Black Friday itself starting at 11am, similar to prop day? Definitely possible.

Is that judgment also aged in knob creek barrels?

It isn't in a residential area, it would all be on Binny's property (which you can't say about current Black Friday lines) and Chicago puts on about 3-5 of these festivals every weekend in the summer so I don't see how any of that would be an issue. Especially if people are already lining up and drinking there, having something more official with paid security would put me more at ease than the current situation if I were the alderman.

All fair points. This is literally Hamsterdam, for those that watched The Wire. You're gonna do it anyway, so we might as well put it in an area where it's legitimate to. Just think the general willingness of someone like Binny's to put on an actual event on the night of Thanksgiving, seems slim. It would manifest itself as a more built out version of the tastings they have across the street on actual Black Friday, if it were to happen, in my opinion.

@fmd Why do you keep saying overnight, the night of Thanksgiving, etc? The whole premise of this ticketed event idea renders that whole concept irrelevant.

I thought there were lofts at the brewpub? The last time I went to the brewpub there was something saying that. I think they are hella expensive though.

Because the post above by @HouseofWortship is what I was originally replying to (bold emphasis mine). A normal event, I agree, would be much easier to pull off.

Oh, I see, I skimmed over that part. Yeah overnight doesn't seem to happen much in Chicago. The sudden and abrupt ends of Lollapalooza each night are evidence of that. God damn like cutting off Nine Inch Nails at 9:55? LMFAO that is weak!

But...I'm just saying, I'll volunteer my time to plan a daytime release ticketed event--just pay me in a few cases of highly tradeable pastry stouts :stuck_out_tongue:

Lollapalooza is my direct analog, here. The noise ordinance prevents anyone from playing past a specific time - can't remember whether it's 10 or 10:30, but it's a fine per minute they have to pay if it goes past. I've seen acts get cut off mid set because of this, but it doesn't happen much anymore because everyone knows the rule.

I thought I read they couldn't have outdoor seating at the bar because of the school. That may be impactful for an outdoor drinking event.

I would absolutely show up to LP if they roped off the place and turned it into an overnight party. Standing in line is one of my pet peeves in general, but if it were more of a "fest" feel, I'd be all-in.

Hell, at that point being shut out of bottles wouldn't feel like a loss.

So, this is completely random but...

Has any year of Regular Bourbon County ever had a bottle cap that was unmarked? I.e. No goose, no "Bourbon County," nothing.

2011 was the first year I bought and they just had a black cap. Kinda assume anything before then was the same

So, the very early bottles (before the label change - 2005-2008) all had a goose face on the cap. I had not seen one from 2009-2011 before, and so I was only familiar with the goose and the words printed. Thanks!

I remember that they were all black for quite a while, I want to say I remember it being black in 2013?

I also think it was all black on the 2006 bottle I had.

I got there at like 3am and was probably 20th in line. I can't recall exactly but I'm positive they had full allotments for everyone that was in line at 7am. I think the people in front of us got back in line but I'm not sure if they were successful in getting a 2nd allotment. Didn't stick around to see for myself.

    Hey All,

So getting in at 730 pm - where does that put you in line?

What was that threshold point where prop 2014 ended and only non vanilla rye and non prop 2014 variants were left for the taking?

    Thanks again!
