The infections kind of ruined this beer for me. I have no desire to ever drink a BC Barleywine again ever since i took a sip of one that tasted like sour yogurt and rotten meat. almost like when you get sick or have food poisoning and the last thing you ate is ruined forever (even if it didnt cause the sickness. I can no longer eat corn nuts or calzones) . The regular is also tainted since i had two infected bottles. one was just a little "off" , while the other was a complete drainpour.

the new bottles, the mass production, and QC issues have all been really disappointing.

    That is definitely not true.

Somehow I think they'll still be OK.

There's really no way of knowing since they JUST started doing that. Aging of beers is a multitude of chemical reactions: oxidation, replacement, reduction, etc., and as far as I know killing off any harmful bacteria won't prevent that from happening. That is all the pasteurization is doing.

I just laughed at this for a solid 2-3 solid minutes.

I'll add that the last time I got food poisoning was the same night I drank some great Tree House NE IPA's and the same is true, I can't even drink an IPA with the same good ole feeling I had prior. Sucks.

Yeah, never really considered this. Although I was going off past posts from last year.

Deschutes has been pasteurizing The Abyss since 2009. I'm not exactly sure but heard that they introduce a singular controlled strain of yeast afterward though for bottle conditioning over time.

I had both at FOBAB and my group loved Prop and thought Northwoods was pretty sub-par

I strongly recommend against counting on getting it in SE Michigan; it's scarce as hell around here. Combination of large population of craft beer people and very small allocations (my assumption is that it's because no one really buys GI around here.)

If you just want regular, I imagine it would still be available back home when you get back, that might be your best bet. You're probably SOL on variants though.

So total wine used to give out a voucher to Grand reserve members which basically saved you one bottle of regular BCBS. Now it appears they aren't doing anything special. They don't even know what they are getting and in what quantities. Either hype is way down, or it wasn't worth their time, or quantities are so low that they won't even really put them on the shelves.

The other shop hasn't mentioned anything yet. Usually in the past, they have a variety of bba stouts from a variety of breweries. But it seems like they already released a couple of those instead of waiting for it all at once.

I'm sure there will be lines but this anti hype is shocking. I was happy getting my one TW bottle last year. Now it may be a hassle.

My local liquor store put out a case of the "regular" about a week ago. Very good, similar to last year. Huge body, lots of chocolate and vanilla.

Does anyone know where bourbon county will drop in the Sacramento area and what day? Asking for a brother-in-law (literally)

I have called probably 25 different places just trying to get an idea (feel) for what places are getting, and so far only 1 place has said they know what they are getting. In past years, the various BC threads indicate places normally know several weeks in advance. Additionally, at least one of the stores I have visited frequently indicated a month+ ago that they should know their allotments soon based on past years. That store *still* does not know.

None of them seem to believe they are getting less, just they don't know yet.

That's what I mean. So we can't accurately assess how the beer ages over time if we have just started assessing it.

Grand Rapids is in West Michigan, not SE Michigan. I know SE Michigan usually gets very little and there a ton of people trying to get regular (variants are nearly non-existant). I've basically given up on trying to driving around a few hours for a couple bottles at most.

I'd assume it would be pretty heavily distributed throughout the area. Hell, when I went back to Roseville for Christmas last year in late Dec. I walked into BevMo off Rocky Ridge and they had 8-10 CASES of regular BCBS just stacked up on the ground. No limits, and standard prices. Right next to it were the same number of cases of FW Anniversary XX bombers. Insane how certain geographies get a ton of the good stuff yet others leave customers scrambling to find a bottle or two.
