This could be a good thing? It essentially means that consumers that want some of both releases will be stretched thinner. I'll probably be proven wrong, but I look at it like The Veil essentially adding two skus to whatever they end up dropping next Tuesday.

i dont think the veil does a release on tuesday, with thursday not being open, and DD on friday.

I was there for batch 1 WotW and the owner of Black Heath made it sound like Matt pitched him the idea of what ingredients he wanted to use and what barrels he wanted it aged in. I also got the impression that Veil largely supplied the vanilla beans and bourbon barrells but that could have been an incorrect interpretation on my part. I still haven’t opened my one bottle of WotW. The samples they poured us were just a tad too sweet for me so I’ve just been saving the bottle in hopes it evens out a little.

They said somewhere on social media they are planning to have two cans Tuesday, unless they change their mind.

I'm pretty sure this would be the first time they've skipped a Tuesday release with the exception of one time in the first month when they couldn't get the mobile canning unit there on Tuesday and did Wednesday instead. If it's anything like last year they could release 4 cans and they'd all be gone at open on Wednesday. Even if that weren't the case, they'd be all but guaranteed to sell the rest on Friday.

This is where I say they should have done a normal can release on Tuesday (including blackivy and horns) and done the bottles/cool taps for Black Friday.

They're dropping blackivy and horns cans on Friday as part of Dark Daze. I wish they had just dropped them on Tuesday, announced on Sunday like always. There is enough hype with just a tap event like Dark Daze, then there's limited glasses, limited bottles, insanely limited magnums all on Friday. I wish they hadn't made the can release part of that madness.

tl;dr I'm just sore I am gonna have such a hard time getting my hands on blackivy.

That line is going to be slow as fuck too with all the different things for people to choose from. The Veil is definitely testing the capacity of their hype machine on this one. I wouldn't be surprised to see some last minute announcements just to get people really peeing their pants. It sounds pretty miserable to me, but I also don't think any of the beers sound good. A flat sour milk stout sounds awful and I'm guessing Wangdoodle is going to be unbearbly sweet just like Hornswoggler.

They have already teased "more surprises". This is why I wish they'd just let me have my blackivy and leave the rest of this to everyone else. If I miss one dipa or the other, no big deal. They're all really similar and they'll make them again. But blackivy is a different style, I loved it, and now they're making it once per year for black friday.

Yeah that sucks, I'd be very unhappy if they did that with my favorite beer. Are you going to the release? I work right next to The Veil and I'll be working that day. I'm not waiting in any long lines but if I hear that they have Black Ivy left with little or no line I'll be happy to grab some for you if you can't make it.

All 3 cans still available for today (Thurs) and each still a 1 case limit.

It's also 3rd Thursday so there will be draft and Crowlers (count TBA) of "Steve" Dunkel
I don't think that is necessarily the case for this this considering both of the other cans are also still around with case limits as well. Usually the Never beers pull in a good crowd. I did not get Frozen Ocean when it was released in Feb but maybe people did not dig it and thus did not feel the need to show up for the DDH version. That release of 225 cases lasted until at least the Sat of release week on a 2 case limit.

Maybe some regulars have just been spending a lot of $$ lately with stock up on GBS, Family Tree membership, ECC or saving up for Dark Daze along with finally realizing they have to start using some of that beer $ for holiday travel and buying presents. Or people are starting to run thin on their PTO and Vacation days off from work.

I don't have any plans to do the Dark Daze and that is super kind of you, I'll send you a dm, thank you for the offer in any case!

I think that's it, past couple releases have been nutty and it's taking a lot of $ to try to keep up in RVA these days. I was mostly pointing to CT. Last two times they've sold out of it early Thursday and I guess they might tonight. Just looks to be moving more slowly than I expected.

i agree with you on the division of tues/thurs, it makes the most sense. also, a DIPA on tap friday would be a nice palate cleanser.

They'll have blackivy on tap as the palate cleanser for sure, doubt other dipas though. I'll admit, some of those stouts they're bringing out sound pretty great.

Kinda wish they just numbered the DIPAs but I like the art. I don’t know. Agree with the sarcasm but still love Veil.
