Not true. Just want to bad mouth in hopes fewer people search and more for themselves.

Or maybe distros are lying to customers to keep it for themselves, family, and friends. I know plenty of shady distros within Wisconsin.

It's open beer season. Happy hunting.

Hopefully all the folks who are outraged will boycott and not buy any bottles this year.

FWIW, in my experiments with pastuerizing barrel aged beers in the last month at my brewery, the pasteurized beer is favorable to unpasteurized and the difference is pretty minor.

Lots of studies have been done on barrel aging beers. Several of them have found 100% contamination rates of barrels aged longer than 9 months. Sometimes the bacteria or yeast hasn’t made a flavor impact and the beer can be saved via pasteurization. I’ve never understood why a brewery would want to age so long in barrels with that knowledge

I have the day off and I'm going to make the rounds of the craft stores in my area and get on lists for BCBS and CBS. Not hearing that we're getting any BCBS here, but will try.

Personally, I've stopped chasing Bourbon County (of any variety). Instead, I'm "investing" in a 4-pack of Victory Java Cask. They just released it in 12oz. bottles and it beats BCBCS every time!

Interesting. Anecdotally, KBS is aged for a year in barrels and as far as I've heard never had to be recalled or dumped. I also have verticals of it going back to 2011 and never picked up any off flavors from older bottles other than oxidation. Maybe it's pasteurized?

You guys will never learn. Yes, it's good, but it's an InBev product, stop buying it!! Plenty of other good beers out there.

usually you don't hear about what a brewer had to dump. you do however pay for it in pricing. the losses are generally buried & covered in high(er) shelf prices. the shelf price is something often complained about with zero consideration of the above point made (losses covered). so, maybe KBS is pasteurized or maybe it's not & Founders has always dumped, responsibly, anything marginal beforehand?

GI's 2015 debacle & the terrible methodology they employed to address the issue gave many the impression it was some unprecedented incident the beer world had never experienced. when really it was how they handled it & refusal to accept the obvious that was unprecedented turning it into a drawn out soap opera or reality show.

at any rate, when it comes to the cellar & aging potential,,, this one continues to exceed all expectations. ctfu

No, it's really not. The hassle of getting up after a turkey induced coma to stand in line for hours in the cold to get a couple of bottles of a 100k+ bottle batch sounds horrific. This is the first year i am skipping all of it. Its just not worth the chase. Plus, the beer is pretty mediocre compared to what is out there now.

The only one that's worth chasing is the coffee version, but that hasn't been good since 2013. I drank a 2017 last weekend and it tasted like straight roasted green pepper. I would not be surprised if this batch turns out to be infected.

Guess I am lucky and unlucky. Lucky in that I don't have to wait on a line to get BCBS, and unlucky in that we don't have those other even better barrel aged stouts you mention. Would love to be able to try some that make me think BCBS is mediocre, but we don't get whatever beers you refer to here.

Green pepper taste is common in coffee beers at various times in the bottles. It seems to come and go and some coffees seem more susceptible than others.

That said - the green pepper flavor profile has NOTHING to do with being infected.

Exactly! You get the green bell pepper flavor when those beers are old. Or if they used bad (cheap, old, etc.) coffee.
