Florida Plates indeed does taste like fruit juice. For what it is, it is very good. Tonight’s line was pretty crazy. Never seen the taproom like that on a weeknight.

Finally had a chance to try the trillium collab.

    Triangle test > T90 > T45 > Lupulin

The Lupulin has that burn, it definitely needs a couple of weeks IMO.

Snowbirds was too sweet for my liking, similar to most of their stout releases. Oddly enough, Florida Plates was a nice change of pace, huge on the peach flavor.

Clear cut winner tonight, DDH Green Power, finally had a chance to try it, the last few times it wasn't on tap because of the AZ wilderness tap takeover and last week's trillium collab. Top notch.

Anyone have a pic/list of whats available for growlers? I went to the new taproom the other week and saw that there were separate growler/pour menus now. I'd like to see what's available to see if I want to make the trip over from Bergen County this weekend for fills.

It seems like people bemoan the collabs as drawing the lines and I for one, like the change of pace in releasing this during the week so it can just be regular other half beers on the weekend.

I thought cream of broccoli was underwhelming and given how similar broccoli and mylar are, I'm worried mylar cream will be similarly underwhelming.

I help out at a new Brewery here in Florida called Ellipsis brewing, we brought a NE style IPA (Oats are not enough) to a fest this past weekend and over and over again people mostly women would say "I don't like IPAs" and over and over again they would walk away saying "Damn that was good". Ellipsis did win people's choice at the event.

Since Plates sold out in two hours last night, do you all think tomorrow's release may not make it to Sunday even with the double batch?

I was very surprised at the turnout last night. I’d say all bets are off these days.

Wasn't the turnout really high because it was a J Wakefield collab? I mean its always hard to judge turnout, but I don't think that this release will sell out extremely fast just looking at the Instagram data.

Razz is lingo for raffle. It came about to trick facebook's filters. It's set up so there are X seats at Y dollars. X times Y is usually way more than what the beer actually cost.

May not make it to Sunday. But I don't think anyone needs to be setting any alarms on Saturday. Clearly a fruit juice collab gets people excited, but relatively speaking this Saturday should be business as usual.

@SpinSamzo using the example you provided (WW) - while they may not have been quite at OH levels of beer fanatic mouth-foaming and obviously had some level of distro, they could hardly be described as having anything close to national-level mass consumer recognition. And anyone that's motivated to sell isn't going to be swayed one way or the other by potential shunning. Trillium: '"we shun you". OH: "check out our lambos with the broccoli decals". If AB et al figure there's a NEIPA gap in their portfolio to fill (in the way that WW filled the sour gap), then OH must be up there as a logical choice.

Incidentally - I'm ignorant about this - is it known categorically one way or the other if OH currently has any sort of institutional outside equity investors? Or is all of the recent expansion activity coming by way of rolling in profits and/or taking on debt?

There's really no way of judging the amount of demand or FOMO from anything without having the actual numbers on the amount of beer actually canned. We wouldn't really know if they only canned 70-80 cases or even less.

If I recall my research I did at the time correctly, Wicked Weed was more or less built, and invested in, with an exit strategy in mind. It's all hypothetical anyway, but for the reasons I provided I remain skeptical of an OH buyout. In the long run I think there is a lot to lose by selling Other Half, although if someone waved a multi-million dollar deal in my face I can't say I wouldn't take it. And on ABI's part, I think there is a lot of uncertainty in purchasing a highly localized brewery and expanding it nationally.

With the informal distribution network in place (resellers, traders, etc) and all of the collabs OH does with breweries across the country, relatively speaking they have a national presence already. Maybe not at the scale across needed for a global brand like ABI, but far more than most local breweries.

if AB/inBev offered OH half a billion theyd be dumb not to sell.

as this forum has pointed out in the past... they are a business.

This was pre- or post-sale research? Guessing the latter when all cards were on the table. I’m just saying who the f knows who or what has invested in OH and what OH’s exit plan may or may not be. If they have one they would hardly be shouting it from the rooftops at this point in time.

But it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that a more “underground” brewery with a very strong brand/cachet that goes well beyond their distro footprint, that’s pumping out the hot new NEIPA style, would be a plausible target for big beer.
