I still don't understand where this NO TENTS AT ALL stuff came from. I know they said no tents/pop-ups/ez-ups during daylight hours (sun rises on Saturday at 7:46 AM! and NO TENTS a minute after), but I think tents overnight will still be fine.

Can someone clarify this if they've talked to anyone at Surly or is everyone just reading too much into the note that Surly put up on facebook regarding this?

Tents up when the sun don't shine is fine. We've come to that conclusion, the gray areas were around pop-ups, campers, trailers, etc.

If you're next to me in line and you put a chair down as a place holder before heading home for the night, your spot will only be honored if you pay rent. Bring beer/food to share. Because that's what a cool line sharer would have done had they been there all night. Your empty chair has nothing to offer me, unless it is a better chair than my own.

I'm amused that human24 liked your post, too. Unless I'm mistaken, he's not only camped out for Great Taste tickets, but drove to Madison to do so.[/quote]

Always happy to amuse! Pre-event hanging out is great. It would also be great if folks would avoid the kinds of over-the-top or perceived-over-the-top activities that will cause the brewery's neighbors, whose property is being occupied, to put more pressure on Surly to change the way things are done in the future.

If there are 2000 at 5pm Friday, that would probably put an end to my Darkness Days...

Anyone know who had the LCD tv and xbox hooked up? They were way down and around the corner (I'm assuming showing up sometime around 5am) but that seemed both ridiculous and awesome at the same time.

I agree with you. I think we overestimate things sometime. This is a simple website, it is not Facebook. There will be many people there, many. I would think closer to a few hundred than 1000 by 6pm While there is a huge following for Surly, how many people just show up for the festivities of Darkness day and never care about the bottles?

People coming and putting their chairs in line to hold a spot and leave, I do not think that will be tolerated, and is kind of Bush League. Surly has said they will have people there at all times to monitor things and if the line stretches around then corner by 10 with 1 person sitting by 10 chairs while everyone else went home for the evening, I would not be surprised if they started wrist banding earlier.

If you want bottles, show up and stay. If you want to have fun, show up at noon and get in line later in the day and you may get lucky and get some left over bottles

I completely agree with you on the whole dropping chairs off and leaving thing, I hope people don't think that's gonna fly... I have been there every year since 08 and it really has been amazing the difference from 08 to last year!! I can't wait to see how different it is from last year to this year, there was definite hype over DD last year, but seems like it has gone to a whole new level this year.

I just want to pick up a few bottles of Darkness and hear Nice Dreams, Plastic Town and Slaughterhouse played live. Sharing in awesome beers with fellow Beer Advocates will be the icing on the cake. I am gonna try and make it Friday night but if not there is always next year. I hope

Just realized that with the way they are doing the color coding I might have to leave before I can buy bottles. Anyone know if selling the bottles will take up the whole event? I have to leave around 2-2:30 to make it to a wedding. I don't want to show up early and not be able to get bottles because I have to leave. If that's the case I might just come for the beer on tap and such.

Huh, did not see that, every other year you could just go in and grab your bottles whenever you wanted to... I hope you get one of the early wristbands!

I found that pretty infuriating last year. There were 20-30 chairs and tents and shit with less than 12 guys total at 3am(tents empty) and by 7am when the tickets came out there was 100 people crammed in that spot. I was right behind that shenaniganery and got my wrist band, but it was still bullshit.
