So, everytime I have used that link (and I found that via google), when I enter in a weight (say 6pounds 3 ounces), and I click package - it only displays for me the flat rate boxes/envelopes. I can't find a way to enter dimensions. If I enter dimensions and they are below the large box size, it redirects me to those boxes. Am I just completely missing it?

Do you select the "Calculate Price Based on Shape and Price" option?
then enter the weight and select large package. Should then have boxes for you to enter shape (rectangle, non-rectangle) and height/width.

I just used with made up size/weight and it worked for me.

Flat-rates are often cheapest unless you are just sending a few hundred miles.

Ok, so I just did that, and it worked (somewhat) this time. It only gives me the options of Express Priority Mail 2 day, Priority 2 day, and Media. Shouldn't there be a ground option?

I am kind of surprised that I can't ship a 6 pound package for like $8 that would be 1 day normally. I guess it looks like I would save about $1 if I use my own box over a priority box if shipping something about medium size. And if shipping something large-size, I guess It'd be almost exactly the same (maybe $0.30 cheaper). (This is USPS vs. USPS - I'd save about $3-4 over Fedex charges it looks like.)

Alternatively, if I am shipping a package that would normally be 2 day, i guess the med and large size boxes save me about $2 (USPS vs. USPS) vs. using my own packaging. Either way, this looks about $2-4 cheaper than FedEx. -Which I am, quite honestly, shocked to find out.

    Very interesting. Decision time.

Just don't send it. You need to drink more of your own beer, sonny! Grad school is rough, and other such easy justifications!

There should be a ground option, but maybe it matters where you are sending. It comes up for me in the scenario I created to SC and CT. (30$ to SC and 12$ to CT).
Does your box fit inside the FR shipper box? If so, just price yours at the location and if its not cheaper, put it into the FR box.

Will see tomorrow! I'm ultra scared about padding, so it's hard for me to just say X bottles/cans of X size.

Thanks for the assistance. I do try to take care of these things on my own, but sometimes it just seems like there are errors. Maybe on my end, maybe on the end of the website, etc. Either way, appreciative for helpful feedback and suggestions.

****The one thing that has not changed, is that if I am going to send 1 package for $12 with 3 beers, I'd rather send a package with 5 or 6 for $14. Damn. Wish this whole hobby thing was cheaper!

No problem, I was hesitant to start using the USPS shippers a few years ago, but now I use them like 80% of the time (3 or so a week). Saves a ton of $ and shipping time. It is an expensive hobby, but I may as well use my money on something that makes me happy.
