I’ve pretty much missed the last 3 pages of replies and posts and the only thing I notice doing through the thread is that no one who I’ve seen not like the name has any idea why it’s called vitamin sea. But thanks for passing judgement without doing research

Vitamin sea=Vitamin C=Juice bomb/OJ IPA. Hull is on the ocean. I guess it’s a little clever.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and cutting out the middle part. Vitamin Sea=ocean=hull is on the ocean. That line of thinking I can get behind. Adding in "juice bomb" makes it cheesy.

Really speaks volumes towards pre-hyping. Apparently the typical beer geek mind is so small and focused on one minute detail of beer that the beer or brewery actually being available or real is background noise.

Trailblazer all over again. I know of a couple untappd home brewers successfully doing the same thing if anyone is looking for the fake "next big thing" HMU.

I had a conversation with a jerk off who nerds some facetwat seacoast beer page that covers NH, ME, and MASSACHUSETTS. He was arguing with me that Hull is not the Seacoast. Or that cape cod is not the Seacoast, becasuse ya know, cape cod is hull. He was butt hurt I had made a post inclufing them in a Seacoast forum, that includes Massachusetts. The best part was I was reposting a post VSB had made to showcase a Veil and Bissell tap takeover in Portland, ME on the SEACOAST. Literally the dumbest conversation I've ever had.

I plan to meet up with VSB as soon as both of our schedules allign in hull as I have friends and family there and will give an honest review. Beer nerds hate what they can't get instantly

Do they? Or do they hate nonbeers hundreds of people have checked in on untappd and commented on the breweries Facebook about? Or do they hate that a brewery with no brewery or even a contract or gypsy brewery is even a brewery? Or do they hate that people are gaming social media to garner undue hype for a brewery that doesn't exist? Or do they hate a name so stupid that no explanation from a BA account with an alarmingly similar maritime based name could ever explain?

I don't know. I do know I will never drink a beer from these 'who knows' that can't be bothered to give any info on beer or themselves but can only retweet Bissell. I homebrew too so the fuck what.

I mean being in hull and brewing juice bombs is a convenient addition but what I’ve been told is all these guys grew up surfing and love the ocean and chose to incorporate that.

I was born and raised on the south shore and came down here for school. God forbid I maintain some interest in the beer scene back home.

The attempt at cleverness only makes it worse. And yes, I'm aware that it doesn't matter, but I still think it's awful.

You know what my main problem is here? It's the premise that by being supportive of these guys, you're NOT ACTUALLY supporting anyone here! Giving away free beer that isn't free to make does nothing to further their financial progress. Imagine making money with a real business structure by being prepared and having your shit and licenses in order BEFORE "releasing" your beer and developing hype and interest on your purchased product... then maybe they could afford more equipment and a proper canner or to hire a mobile unit... you know, how it's usually done?

Of course, they could have done what Upper Pass does and contract with another brewery to get beer into stores, thus funding their expansion. I am happy that I have the option to support and advocate for UP since I can easily BUY their beer at my nearby market. That whole excuse that contract brewing isn't effective just doesn't fly with me. I think giving away free beer is less effective. (They work out of Trapp where they can use a real canning line, control their TPO, learn to utilize bigger equipment, practice scaling up batches, etc.) Upper Pass has hype and demand and they didn't have to fish for it, either.

I would have happily waited for these guys to keg and get stuff in distro to support them, but my interactions with their unofficial PR has put me off them for life. I've also told all my beer nerd friends about it too, so there's that. Several who work in the industry find this all just as ridiculous as I do. And I don't give two shits about the name, FWIW.

I was already rooting hard for VS and after reading this thread, I am pulling more for their success.

First of, giving away beer is not just to build hype. It is about gathering feedback, learning and dialing in their product. I was fortunate to get a few bottles of their blonde (VSB) a few months back and I offered up some constructive feedback about the carbonation levels. The feedback was very well received and from what I could tell, appreciated. It's like delivering agile technology...test and learn...

The collaborations are also about learning first and brand second.

For anyone that finds their marketing efforts annoying, keep in mind that just by being on this site, you are in the top part of the top 1% of informed beer drinkers. The noise is much louder to you than most. And really, who cares? Marketing, merch and branding all oh a part in driving demand which turns into cash flow which turns into more better beer.

Cheers and best wishes to VS...

Met the guys from Vitamin Sea a couple times. Honestly they all seem like pretty good, and down to Earth guys who are really excited about getting a brewery up and going. I cant fault them for being excited. I think that's a good thing.

So you don't know either. Awesome. Can you school us again on not doing research on the name when you didn't either?

They like the sea. Great. Explain the vitamins. Are they huge Hulkamaniacs? The pun attempt is awful. And yes, blindly defending a non-brewery because you are interested in the "beer scene back home" is not an awesome look. Sea themes are already played so there has to be SOMETHING else. Right? Right Lost ships brewing?

I have never tried any of their beer, don’t have an Instagram so don’t know anything about their marketing, and generally am indifferent towards brewery names. I will say that the name Vitamin Sea does nicely lend itself to ‘deez nuts’ jokes though.

The "Seacoast" in this context is a perceptual geographical region, and not just any place that is on a literal seacoast within those states. Sorry.
