You're right don't belong on same level. KBS and Black Note is way better as well as Boulevard Whisky Barrel Stout and Bells Expedition both barrel aged and non as well as Witch's Hat Rye Whisky Stout Night Fury. Only thing that makes BCBS special is that it has extra 2% abv. It tastes watered down, no creaminess just very bland. When you drink KBS tastes like your licking the bourbon barrel. Not saying BCBS is a bad beer (it is good) but does not compare to what I listed above at least not anymore. But perhaps it once did before the AB inbev takeover.

I actually liked Northwoods quite a bit. The fruit acidity cut though the mix really nicely for a little different palate impression than the "jamminess" of Backyard Rye.

    Cheers folks!

You must be joking. Kbs has little to no barrel character at all. Just taste like a cheap shitty stout with a fusel alcohol smell.

Funny you say that, that's exactly how I felt about BCBS when compared to KBS

Solo mission, yeah. Not even close. I love doing blind samplings. That's why I mention perception a lot. We think it's better but in a blind, other characteristics take over that we like from other beers. So then it becomes, am I trying to see what the technical best beer is, or what my favorite is. In the past, I have preferred non BCBS options. So it does become 'close' with a few biases thrown out.

I like KBS and BCBS. Both barrel aged beers, but very different. Its okay to like one and not the other or vice versa. However, I do not think either is a poorly made beer.

I agree, and I rated BCBS as exceptional just not outstanding

There are a lot of outstanding BA stouts that are preferential based on batch, age, and your taste that day. One does not have to be crappy for you to enjoy the others. I love BCBS, KBS and others - but at this moment I'm drinking and liking a Sierra Nevada Trip In the Woods Cocoa Coconut Narwhal, improving as it - and I - warm. Still liking BCBS.

Take me seriously? It’s beer lol.
If you take it that seriously then I can’t help you. But if you dont know what I’m talking about with kbs you need to look beyond the shelf my guy.

I was on a hunting trip in south central New York and came home with 8 bottles of regular in only 2 stops. At one of the shops I was told I had just missed the coffee which was the first time I had ever heard of a variant in my part of the state. I was very happy although it was 11.99 compared to 9.99 last year. I also found a shelf full of Helldorado boxed 12 ounce bottles which surprised me.

My take on the KBS vs. BCBS is that they are both excellent but different. If anyone wants to get rid of theirs I am sure that plenty of BA fans will be more than happy to take it off their hands.

In this area, we got regular, 2pp. No variants. My go-to store had a few bottles of 2014, but they were gone by the time I got to the register. There were maybe 10 people in front of me, and probably no more than that many behind me. That was all. Very low key.

Plenty of cases of regular sitting here in San Antonio. No limit on regular. 1pp on barley and Northwoods.

Where did you find barley and Northwoods? I grabbed a couple bottles of regular yesterday at Gabriel's at the Vineyard and Spec's has bottles of regular left at 1 bottle per person.

There was several cases of regular left at Northwest food Mart, 4pp, I think maybe 3 cases at Stone oak heb, and regular at the Alon heb.

Couldn't agree more. Was disappointed in Black Note last year and again this year. KBS and High-Westie? Both good beers but come on. No.
