I'm definitely interested in hearing more of your thoughts on BLVD beers if you'd like to direct message or email me at jdanner at boulevard dot com.

Are you sure that Prop was available out east? I've never heard of it hitting anywhere but Chicagoland. I know Reserve made it to states besides IL/KY, even though it wasn't supposed to, but I would be even more surprised to hear Prop making it to other places. They don't even make that available in IL outside of the Chicago area.

If I could down vote this 1000 times I would. I never heard or read anyone say KBS is a barrel forward beer (like licking the barrel). It lacks most properties found in bourbon because it’s aged so cold — this is why I once asked BA if it would be better for Founders to stop the cave aging gimmick. I love barrel heavy beers and KBS is definitely not one of them. Oh, I don’t think 99% of people care about BCBS abv, in fact I see people wanting it lower so they can get it in their state.

You’re also the first person I’ve encountered to say BCBS is watery. I have to question if you really had BCBS. Not raging but there’s red flags all over this.

Yes i have had and it is watery I love bourbon and scotch too. KBS destroys BCBS and the cave aged makes that beer amazing. Hell to prove it is watered down my wife enjoyed BCBS and she's not a fan of bourbon barrel beer, probably reason why she enjoyed it. Never have I said BCBS is a bad beer but it's nowhere close to being as good as KBS

More red flags. Have to question whether you had KBS too. I have 4 cases in the cellar. Choosing to ignore now. Good day, sir.

Seriously because you differ in opinion? Everyone's palate is different and I respect that. Maybe KBS isn't the right comparison because of its chocolate, vanilla, coffee, coconut characteristics but I sure do like it better than BCBS. Now as far as a beer with a strong bourbon flavor with nothing more expecting I'd choose Boulevard Whisky Barrel stout. That to me was straight up whisky. BCBS is a highly priced rare beer with potential to be amazing but was standing shy at the finish line for it to shine in my palate. Boulevard blew me away and my complaint on BCBS is that it didn't excite me enough to match the hype. I have 2 more bottles I'm cellaring maybe it'll get better with age. But at its price mark I would say KBS and Boulevard are better choices. Also had a Witch's Hat Rye Whisky Barrel stout night fury the night before BCBS and once again found that to be more enjoyable than the BCBS.

I don't care what anyone is saying, I bought my first ever BCBS and BCBCS on Friday and I'm damn excited to try both of them.

I'm sorry, but Boulevard Whiskey Barrel Stout is awful. It was a drain pour for me. Thin with nothing but fusel alcohol. No whiskey, no barrel, just some odd Belgian yeast flavor/after taste. Boulevard is not what it used to be, and it's not getting any better.

I love KBS. Everything about it is perfect. Had a bottle of this year's BCBS last night and it was outstanding. Both stouts are very different and both are world class, but BCBS is thicker and sweeter than KBS. But it doesn't mean KBS is bad or watery.

2017 BCBS is fantastic. Went back and got a few more bottles after cracking open the first one.

While not as good, IMO, I've really enjoyed much of what I've had from Boulevard in a variety of styles: BBQ, Long Strange Tripel, Harvest Dance, Love Child, The Calling...

I haven't tried the (rebranded?) Whiskey Barrel Stout, but I always liked the "Imperial Stout" listed on this site. Not as mind-blowing as BCBS, but still a quality beer.

This whole "if it's not as good as this one beer I like then it sucks" mindset is weird to me.

Once again maybe I had a really good bottle of Bpulevard and a mediocre bottle of BCBS. As I'm sure we all know beer, the same beer can differ from batch to batch. Perhaps that is the case with this argument. But seriously drain pour? What kind of a douche pours out their beer? I'd never drain pour a beer. If I paid for it I will drink it, even if it was Maui Coconut Porter which may have been the worst beer on the planet, but I drunk it anyway because it's beer. Now i never said I didn't like BCBS and I did rate it like a 4.03 which is exceptionally good. And I think if you're a fan of BCBS then you shouldn't think Boulevard Whisky Barrel stout is disgusting nor should people consider KBS to be awful. I never said BCBS is awful just felt it didn't compare to other bourbon barrel stouts that I've come to enjoy. Also take into consideration the chase and the cost and the hype, I just find Boulevard and KBS as well as some others to be better choices. But to call KBS and Boulevard Whisky Barrel stout to be disgusting makes me question how well you know beer? Only answer would be due to a bad batch or poorly handled beer storage. Like I said I never found BCBS to be disgusting just found it to not match the hype.

Take it easy there tough guy. Just because someone else peed in your cereal, doesn't mean you should be letting your anger and frustration out on me. And calling Maui Coconut Porter the worst beer on the planet, makes me question how well you know beer.

I don't eat cereal so go ahead and pee in it. So you liked Maui Coconut Porter and not Boulevard Whisky Barrel stout? Amazing! But hey once again maybe I had a bad batch and you had a good batch. But Maui Coconut Porter is not on the same level as a bourbon barrel stout so to not like that one would not jeopardize my beer knowledge. But for the whisky barrel stout by Boulevard it's straight up whiskey so either A you had a bad batch, B stored badly, C had it past it's year mark recommendation, or D you don't like whisky because that beer was more bourbon forward than BCBS. But once again it may just differ from batch to batch.

Ok my dudes. Having bcbs 2017 on draft.
It’s pretty fucking awesome. And not just for something I can walk into a restaurant and get on draft... still the 14 bottle I had a few weeks ago was better.
Then for the sake of this thread compared it to boulevards whiskey barrel stout.
I’m sorry I actually do like a few of boulevards beers and if bourbon county wasn’t here I’d be drinking the boulevard..
    But....
It doesn’t hold a candle to bcbs. Super thin and weird estery yeast taste.
@BenHoppy think you might be mistaking barrel flavors for raw alcohol burn.

Not being a fan boy for bourbon county. But I’m not blindly hating it because of the infection issues like other are..

Hey I'm not hating BCBS just I enjoyed Boulevard better. I wanted BCBS to be better but for me it wasn't. And no I'm not mistaking bourbon for raw alcohol burn. I'm a big scotch and bourbon fan I know how bourbon tastes. I do agree BCBS is good but I found Boulevard to be better. It all might all be due to not expecting a lot from Boulevard and expecting a lot from BCBS. Expectations may be a factor for me. But for under $20 for a 4 pack for Boulevard compared to $11-15 and some places $20 a bottle for BCBS I feel Boulevard Whisky Barrel stout is a better choice.

Never said I liked it. Actually hate that beer, but for him to call it "the worst beer on the planet" is a major overstatement. I guess he hasn't had any "Light" beer or Malt Liquor in his life.

I have many beers worse and would buy another bottle of the Maui, like someone said earlier I think convincing someone to like something you like but they do not might be a losing battle. Everyone's tastes are different. Cheers!

That Boulevard was terrible, my buddy and I drain poured ours too. KBS is decent, and i usually head up to Founders to get an allotment and brewery hop, but it is in no way even close to BCBS. An even more fair comparison would be KBS vs. Coffee BCBS and that is a laughable comparison. A bunch of us have done a side by side a number of times between KBS and BCBCS and it just isn't even in the same league. Founders is one of my favorite breweries, but KBS is just outclassed here.

I've had plenty of light beer and plenty of malt liquors which I don't like either besides DKML, DKML was of course amzing. Now as far as all those other light beers and malt liquors they were all better than Maui Coconut Porter. That beer just tasted like club soda with a drop of coconut syrup.
