The single barrel honey rye was incredible, don’t leave without getting a pour. One of the best beers I’ve had the year.

Its actually not bad right now, no real line for draft and the to-go line is short with everything but crowlers still available. I only tried the single barrel honey rye whangdoodle but I did not like it, its extremely sweet, basically like drinking honey. I think at this point I just need to accept the fact that sweet beers are popular and that's what the veil is going to make.

Everything non crowlers in terms of packaged beer was still available at 7pm. No lines, etc.

i agree with your take on that beer, but it’s too bad you didn’t try the vanilla sleeping forever, quite good and not sweet. also the ‘white russian’ beer was somewhat sweet but more balanced.

    That White Russian was delicious.

Welp, I probably won’t be returning to DD events in the future after yesterday. Too many overly sweet and boozy stouts with one balanced offering exclusive to the event (White Russian). Was hoping more of the beers would turn out better but nope. Here’s hoping some of the take away stuff I haven’t had is better than the main draft-only contenders.

At least they sold drink tickets before opening though. Glad some common sense was used. Now if only they could take orders before open on Tuesday...

I'm with you on that. At least I know now that if Dark Daze was their premeire stout event, its safe to assume that most if not all of their stouts are going to be overly sweet moving foward. I will avoid them, regardless of ratings/feedback.

On another Veil note, I just drank a month-old Lil Kitty Boi's Day Off and its still as delicious as day 1.

I'm glad to hear that keg of VSF was good. It was amazing at the anni party but I had it on tap over the following few weeks and felt like it fell off fast so it says something to me if it held up that well.

I'm curious if that's the case. I seem to always prefer the Veil stouts on tap and the IPAs from the can. I think it has to do with the level of carbonation but who knows. It seems the resounding verdict is "these stouts are all too sweet" which doesn't appeal to me either. Bummer because I've really enjoyed SF and its variants.

Sorry it was a letdown overall but I'm glad to hear they did a good job running it.

Yeah, I like SF and its variants and a number of Horns variants that I’d all call sweet but not quite as sweet as yesterday’s release. At least I didn’t camp out. Those Marylanders who did probably made a killing off those magnums.

Sorry if this a redundant post, i am very curious: Could someone provide some quick tasting notes on vermicious knid? This beer sounds completely off the wall and I am wondering how it came out.

DJ’s all day and awesome food will be available. Stay tuned for draft list and more info coming soon!

Also recently announced is that The Veil will be doing a collab with Lone Pine Brewing that will be released at Collaboration Fest happening 3/31/2018 in Denver. No mention of who's brewery this will be done at but I assume we can safely say Veil will stay the course of doing a collab at Lone Pine and then Lone Pine will come to RVA to do one at Veil's facility like most of their collabs usually go. http://mybeerbuzz.blogspot.com/2017/11/denvers-5th-annual-collaboration-fest.html

I doubt anyone's toing to get too excited over the Mikkeller day, but some of their Spontan beers are actually really good. That could be a fun day to go by.

Personally, I'm psyched that Master Shredder is coming back today! I'm looking forward to having a fridge full of those for the next month.

I’m actually very interested as to what gets poured at this event. Mikkeler seems to be very inconsistent with awesome and barf worthy beers alike.

I was able to make it by tonight right before close to grab a couple 4 packs. I asked the bartender how the honey supply was and she checked and said "actually that's the last one." Couldn't help myself, so unless she overlooked some 86 honey.

I didn't wanna put @oldn00b on blast on BTV but it seems there is a "prize" from BTV for buying the last bottle. Might want to reach out to CM Bryant on Facebook.
