Why would Hardywood send a limited release beer to a store that you have to have a membership to shop at?

I haven't done it in DC but was able to do this in Missouri and Colorado while living there.

I would super interested to know if you can buy booze without a membership. I assumed you had to have a membership

I'm not sure if this is the correct location and just ignore me if so, but I didn't want to make an entire new thread. Anyway, there's a good chance I will be relocating to the NOVA area for a job very soon. I will most likely be looking to move to the Alexandria, VA area and will be coming from Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads.

Tips for getting acclimated to the beer scene up there? Breweries to frequent (I'm aware of Aslin, Mad Fox, some of the other more well known ones). Best shops? Having grown up in VB and being very familiar with the bottle shops in this area, I rarely have trouble getting my hands on even some of the more limited releases, I imagine that will change.

    Thank you in advance!

This isn’t really the place but I’ll bite. Total Wine is typically the best place in NoVA to get stuff. The staff usually suck and don’t know when anything comes out (or in some cases even have it on the floor! Looking at you TW Springfield). Aslin is far and away the strongest brewery we have. Ocelot is worth checking out, especially if you like alpha heavy retro west coast IPAs. Crooked Run surprises me on occasion and usually gets ignored on lists like these. Good luck have fun

In terms of independent shops, Norm's in Vienna; Arrowine, The Brew Shop and K-1 in Arlington; Dept of Beer and Wine in Alexandria; and Dominion in Falls Church are your best bets.

Because shitloads of people have memberships and shop there. DC area costcos are one of the worst shopping experiences in terms of crowds 7 days a week.

I’ll be in Chantilly for the weekend. Any spots officially announce the release of CBS on Friday?

I would expect Total Wine in Chantilly to have it Friday morning. Call them on Thursday to see if they received their shipment.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Tequila and Rum Barrel Abyss hit DC this week. CBC got it in on Monday, but not sure if they still have any. After how good the Scotch barrel variant was last year, I was at least willing to give these a try.

I saw on a Facebook thread the Founders rep for the area say that while Dec 1 is the "official" release day, most stores will start to see their shipments the week of the 4th.
