Or you live in the city and the shops you frequent are the same shops everyone frequents who are wholly democratic about rare releases (like Beer Temple).

The usual comeback to this is lolz get a life hazebro and ACTUALLY SPEAK to someone you socially unadjusted loser. I'm friendly at all the places I frequent, but given their general influx of people and size of product received it's entirely unfair for them to play favorites so I think that's why they choose not to.

Also you'd have to assume beer drinkers had outgoing personalities

Except for one problem, if you are really into these beers and have developed a taste for them, how the heck can you stomach shelfies? About the only bad beer I drink is an Old Style when I'm at Wrigley, otherwise it's bombers that I spent a lot of time chasing. Heck, I've just about given up on New Glarus and some of the other better small breweries. Was it John Hall that said life is too short to drink bad beer?

Again, I think one issue people have is that some stores are lying here. Just a question about the two stores you mentioned here where you are a very good customer it seems, as you know the owners curious if you know how they handle when people (non-customers) ask about BCBS?

Do they say they only sell BCBS to the customers who frequent their shops and purchase beer year round? Or do they just say they don't have anything or are sold out even if there are allocations sitting in back waiting to be purchased by the year round buyers? If the former, good on them as this honest approach might get people to consider frequenting the store in the future while the latter approach is essentially a lie and speaks volumes about the type of proprietor they are (imo).

See I actually thought Lizard of Koz was interesting to drink. It wasn't balanced or the best beer I had but it was unique. Not every beer has to be the most perfectly blended barrel aged stout with vanilla and cinnamon. Lizard of Koz was much better executed than NW.

Anyone go to Whole Foods in Hinsdale on Ogden last year? Would appreciate a variant report from a year back.

I understand Indiana is not Chicago, but the Whole Foods in Indy are not getting near the quantity or variety as in years past (from what I am told from speaking with their beer guy over the past couple months). From a couple conversations, it sounds like other Whole Foods in Chicago are also getting less this year (specifically variants I am refering).

Not sure if this is true across the board, but just an FYI if anyone was planning on this being the time for them to be guaranteed a couple more variants.

Shelfies can include craft beer that just doesn’t move as quick as name the next whale chaser bro.

Store 1 had a bcbs release Friday morning with people lined up outside. They get a decent allocation and put a few bottles in the back for regulars.

Store 2 much smaller allocation, put regular on the floor for anyone, only got a case of variants (and not all variants) and kept those for regulars. Don’t know for sure, but would assume they just told people they didn’t have variants for sale.

Swift Liquors in Addison has Northwoods. He's charging $39 per bottle - I politely asked him to put the bottles back and walked out. If you feel like getting ripped off head over!

I’m hoping that’s not true given that Chicagoland WF is giving a much bigger individual allotment than last year.

If I don't personally benefit from special relationships I wish no one had them. Seems wrong.

Works for me in a small town but I can see where it would not work in the big city. I also bring the mgr a gift a few times each year to say thanks for treating me so well.

Works for me in the burbs at my local Binny's. Started bs'ing with the beer guy a few years ago. Brought him some Alchemist, Trillium, Cigar City brews over the years. He hooks me up on these releases. Not all mind you, can't do anything for BCBS nor would I expect him to. Hoping he could hang on to a bottle of CBS for me tomorrow though!
