That's great news! I'll have to search them out!

For me, it's honestly not really about hop burn, it's about the flavor. Your beers generally start hitting my taste pleasure center after 3-4 weeks. I find myself buying your older beers off the shelf, but I sometimes miss out on offerings because I choose not to want to fill my fridge with IPAs to age.

I'm happy to hear you guys are working on it, I hope for the best from you!

Seriously?? This is ONE beer out of a plethora of other beers to be drank. I'm sure you can find many other options out there that fit your tight standards.

Hey, this is boulder county after all! I get your position, and as I mentioned, I have no problem drinking it myself but know people who do. Just giving some feedback that a year round lactose ipa may alienate those dietary restrictive folks who drink odd 13 because it’s gluten reduced. But sure, it isn’t odd 13’s mission to cater to a small subset of the drinking public. From my own personal perspective, I haven’t liked any ipas with lactose. I wanted to like alpha twins, but just didn’t. Love everything else odd 13 puts out. I don’t need my ipa to be a milkshake, but I’m not the brewer - just one customer with an opinion. I appreciate the experimentation, and maybe I’ll change my opinion with juice hunter.

As mentioned in another thread, we changed the stouts to on-site consumption only. Our lab thinks the shelf stability might not be great. In the taproom we can make sure everything is tasting the way we expect.

Interesting. Yeah, we consistently have people calling the brewery and messaging us asking what the freshest date codes are that could be on shelves and what date codes we have in the taproom. Different strokes.

I saw. Thanks for the reply though. I'm still coming by on Friday.

This is such a fantastic concept (at least for us beer geeks)

If this comes out like Alpha Twins with a heavy helping of Galaxy, then I'll be so stinkin' happy. Kudos to Odd 13 and their BA involvement! I picked up a 6'er today. My wife and I will give it a try over the next few days and I will give you our impressions.

Intergalactic Juice Hunter 1.0 - Canned on 11/21/17

L- Look super hazy, borderline turbid golden, straw yellow. 4.5
S- Sweet, tropical fruit and citrus. Sweetness, and maybe yeast character(?) competes with hops. 4.25
T- Yikes, maybe it's just me but I get cloying sweetness. I appreciate the silkiness, and body the lactose brings (I assume) but it just carries in too much sweetness. It is a distraction to the hops IMO. You still get orange, grapefruit, pineapple and mango in spades but it is like a Jamba Juice smoothie that I just can't fully get behind... at least within a beer. 3.75
F- Thick, sticky sweetness stays on the tongue. 4.00
O- Good/great but not fantastic. Take this with a grain of salt because I am just a mediocre home brewer. But I would scale back the lactose and figure out another way to add body (either more oats, rye, wheat, or a slightly higher mash temp.) 4.00

Juice Hunter is pretty good. I'd buy on the regular.

Buzzin Cousin needs to be packaged though, like right away. It's a damn fine beer.

Also, I think we should all give @rscot231 some props. He works a real full time job while running Odd 13 and raising a family. Yet, he still takes time to answer all us internet neckbeards and our silly questions.

So you have multiple friends that have celiac (or can’t process gluten) and who are lactose intolerant? Are they related? I have one friend with celiac who is lactose-sensitive. I started my reply with surprise but then remembered my friend has the same issue! But to others’ points, there are other year round beers from Odd 13 for them to purchase. I will try this one but probably prefer no lactose in my IPAs and usually prefer single IPAs to Doubles. Love Noob and Codename Superfan.

No lactose in hoppy beers please. Let Tired Hands/Omnipollo have their milkshake fun.

Three friends who don’t do gluten, two of which don’t do lactose, and another who does gluten but no lactose. Yes, it’s a bit much to follow. But my personal opinion after drinking the beer - get rid of the lactose. If you want to make it a one-off or novelty beer, go for it. But a year-round flagship IIPA? No. The hops are obscured by lactose. If your goal is intergalactic milk hunter, you nailed it.

Not necessarily the right thread, but the Newcole stouts were just ok. Kind of thin. Cracked the OG St. Nicole with a friend tonight, and at 14% it stood up to many legit BA stouts. It was fantastic. The rum newcole and these just didn’t have the backbone needed for barrel aging. Bring back the 14% St. Nicole!

My posts last night were a little harsh. I did enjoy both the newcole and the juice hunter, but as far as juice hunter I don’t personally dig the milkiness. And as far as the newcole, I felt lacked body and abv needed for a solid BA stout.

I find myself enjoying Juice Hunter more and more. It is really, really good. Super easy to drink for a DIPA, like too easy. I wouldn't change a thing. I'm sending a few out to some friends in the lands of NEIPA. I'll share their opinions as well.

I also like it more with a week on it. Aroma is starting to pop- which seems counterintuitive? I’m going to space them out and see how they taste each week. But I’m still getting too much sweetness from the lactose for my palate. Curious to hear what your friends have to say since I’ve never had the original NEIPA,s that started the “style” so I don’t know how they stack up. But I have thoroughly enjoyed the main producers in CO.

I agree. Last weekend, I was thinking interesting/good but not something I would buy often. Just had one now and it is tasting great, very noticeable difference. It will be interesting how it continues to age and how 2.0 compares.

Flavor at about 1 week is pretty consistent with what it’ll be once it gets sent to distributor and put on shelves. We are going to begin shipping it in January.

Finally got to try Juice Hunter last night at First Draft (thanks for sending a keg down to Denver!) -- incredible beer, imo. Top-three NE IPA in CO for me.
