IMO - this is what places should do. Good for them.

Oh I'm right there with you, but it's a double-edged sword. The people who woke up extremely early to wait hours will be upset, and the people toward the back will be happy. Vice versa if they did honor the 3 variants per person rule with a long line as well.

The more people who don't get what they want after waiting in line for 7 hours only means that less people will wait in lines. Win-Win.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that if a company is going to let you loiter around their building for hours, you should be happy as long as they give you one of everything. No one is telling anyone to line up, so just be happy you got bottles most other people are missing out on.

Know you’re talking about burbs, but jewel at state and grand in the city still has 5.5 cases of reg. No limit.

It boggles my mind when this place can basically have a room of requirement full of northwoods, while Whole Foods gets 1.

Turns out WF DePaul only had 5 prop and 5 reserve (I was #4 in line, but had also been there in my car since 3 am). We ran into the guy who was #6 in line at a Jewel later and he said both were gone by time he was up. He got a coffee and NW, so not a total loss, but still a crazy small allocation.

My new theory is that they must be kicking back a piece of the gouge profits to the distributor. I remember them having 2014 bcbs when they opened up and it wasn't terribly gouging. I can't remember if I stopped buying beer there when the beer guy told me I had to try mango mag or when a founder's kbs 4 pack was 35 bucks.

Well, if they are restocking, it means there are people buying them.

Exactly. "I'm sorry sir, but our "No Shitlording Policy" goes into effect when there's more than 10 people in line before the store opens."

This isn't exactly how it worked. Nobody walked out with multiple Props, Reserve, or Northwoods. They did let some of those not right up front get multiple Coffees. They appeared to only have 6 Reserves, maybe 18ish Props, and 12 Northwoods. Not much at all for their Flagship store!

WF is clueless on how to run releases! WTF is up with West Loop putting CBS out and not other stores? Although I'm happy the way LP worked out for me, it was probably not the best approach considering that there were 80 or so people in line.

I have no complaints about how Jewel and WF are running these "events" in that both are grocery stores with little or no experience, knowledge, or interest in doing this stuff. That corporate is getting them "rare" beers is probably not particularly interesting to them. I feel bad for all the beer nerds that get screwed, though; it's not their fault either.

However, I will say that if you're going to go as far as to advertise on your website/blog/etc. that there will essentially be "release events" (as opposed to "we'll have it on Friday, swing by if you want"), they should probably have an organized gameplan in place.

Part of me wonders if stores have stopped caring and are just upsetting people on purpose. They're probably tired of dealing with people they won't see again until next year and are trying to get rid the ridiculous lines at their stores

Wow, that’s crazy. He probably would’ve been better off going to the Lakeview WF - I think they had closer to a full case of each.

I guess getting up that early paid off for us. Great meeting and chatting with you and your buddies in line!

I tried to catch you at Jewel, but you got out way before me. I assumed you ditched WF when the coffee was out.
