The new brewery is coming... Maybe in January, fingers crossed!

The Double Can + Glassware release at Barrier Brewing was a success.

Funds from this release help to fund completion of Grimm's and Barrier's new brewing equipment, which was endangered when our manufacturer went out of business.

Joe and Lauren thank you for your support and were glad to meet many of you at Barrier.

Their new online shop is open. Check out their gorgeous glassware and shirts.

Nice pics on their instagram feed: https://www.instagram.com/grimmales/

Grimm beers are usually in high demand (especially the cans). Cans have been limited to low counts per person. Grimm Artisanal Ales supply their beers at low prices (and have NOT raised their prices recently) to the distributor, who supply the retail shops, and therefore are not responsible for the final price you may encounter. They try to support the "Mom and Pop" shops that sell their beer. Hopefully, we should all support these small shops. Also available at select Whole Foods beer departments with limits to spread the wealth among your fellow BA brethren. :sunglasses:

The latest fitness craze has been the checking of this thread and Beermenus for their cans/bottles and running around town trying to get them before inventory is sold out. Needed exercise for some of our fellow beer enthusiasts. :grinning: If you miss out, you can usually find their beer on tap.

Post away and yes, Joe and Lauren (the Grimm's) monitor this thread and are great about responding to your questions and comments. Especially, if you tag them @Grimm_Artisanal_Ales. Great people, great couple, great brewers.

    Artwork

The beautiful Grimm artwork on their labels is designed by Lauren, about 50% from scratch and the rest using Gretta Johnson's (their longtime friend) artwork. Gretta did the artwork for Sugarmaker, In Mid-Air, and Candlepower.

Check out http://grettajohnson.com/ for more about this talented artist.

The artwork on the Splish can is by Joe's old band mate, and incredible artist, Brian Alfred.

The artwork on Lambo Door, Awoogah, Light Year, Skyspace, Lumen, and Blackberry Orange Pop! is by the amazing Lauren Grimm. She can do it all!

The artwork for Sumi Ink label is by Sumi Ink Club (http://sumiinkclub.com/)

Their friend Maggie (Margaux Ogden) did the Zap design (http://www.margauxogden.com/paintings)

Still waiting for the official list. I'll add it after I received it or @Grimm_Artisanal_Ales will.

You just had to say it, didn't you . I hope the same as well. I'm sure Joe and Lauren are more excited than we are to get the place running, move on to the next step and not be stuck in permitting/building hell.

Hi guys -- sorry to have to say this, but we failed our boiler inspection and it looks like it's going to take a couple more months before we can get hot water. We're extremely disappointed but it is what it is. Believe me, we'll let you know when the opening is close

Liked for your great responsiveness, but that’s very unfortunate news for you, and us as well of course. Hopefully everything works out the better for this.

Huge bummer all around on the boiler inspection result (darn city officials!!!).

But in brighter news, 3-day-old DDH Zap is on a few shelves! Freshest Grimm can I've ever stumbled across.

    ZAP is back. YESSSSSS.

Anyone have any issues with their Cherry Pop? I picked up a bottle and the fill was super low, pretty much to the bottom of the neck where the bottle gets fatter. It's kind of flat and almost watery. Really dull. Lowest fill I've ever had in a Grimm. I don't know if I got an anomaly or not? @Grimm_Artisanal_Ales any reported issues?

Also, is this batch any diff formula wise from the original?

Icing on the cake could be interesting. I love Grimm, and will live at the brewery basically once it opens, till the L shuts down and i cant get from Manhattan to Bk. But the pop series is kind of letting me down. I miss the old classic sours like Purple Prose and Rainbow Dome.

I think it was brought up in a thread months ago, is there a BA or Dbl Negative variant coming since it's been released twice this year (regular)?

low fills can taste weird. we try to make sure none of them hit the shelves... where'd you pick this up?

a new batch of rainbow dome is coming soon. no BADN in the works at the moment -- we currently have ALL our barrel resources devoted to sour/wild beer and that stuff will be coming to fruition soon with Future Days, Lilt, and Flow State which are some of our best beers to date (the sort of beers we dreamed of being able to produce a decade ago)

Say what you will about the Pop! series, but Power Pop! was one of the better beers I've had this year. Drank like a hoppy cream soda. Really looking forward to Galaxy Pop! for that reason.

...but in true fashion I need to measure that comment with some criticism: I haven't had a good Grimm IPA in months now. Drank a can of Light Year tonight and found it to be thoroughly mediocre. The last time I found myself impressed by one of their IPAs was DDH Tesseract, which is a shame when you consider that early batches of Afterimage and Lambo Door were what catapulted me into the world of craft beer.

I'll continue to drink their beers, and I'm still very excited about them having their own space, but their IPA releases will be taken with a grain of salt until further notice.

Just picked up a bottle of Cherry Pop. Excited to get back to the fruited Pops. While I think we can all agree that we liked some more than others, I appreciate the diversity of the series. Boysenberry was my favorite, but Galaxy always sounds great!

since then I have really enjoyed: 2017 awoogah, power source, ddh afterimage (draft especially), Idaho 7, and I might be in the minority of people who truly loved kites.

but that's just like, my opinion man. it's a high class problem I think, that any recent issues have been excessive precipitation of hop matter and maybe some tinkering with the house IPA style away from some people's faves (I actually appreciate the spirit of experimentation esp when the oaked sour / gose / berliner program has been so consistent).

if anything the thing I have most anxiety about is now I'm trying to do the math on that instagram barrel shot from March and dividing by 750ml vs bombers, and wondering how hard it's going to be to get quantity and line wise. any chance of online presale?

@Grimm_Artisanal_Ales I assume at least some of that is going to be more iterations of the cube cuvee line maybe with cool names and retail packaging?

Count me as part of that crew as I just finished the 4 pack I got and really enjoyed the nuanced flavor profile. Grimm IPAs are more up my alley though as I tend to prefer beers that aren't overpowering in aroma and flavor, but instead present a profile to be investigated and understood. I would think it takes a lot of talent and recipe tweaking to layer hop notes in the way they do vs. smashing beers with a ton of hops and hoping for the best (aka, how I homebrew so far).

I also think Grimm IPAs benefit from warming from fridge temperature before drinking. I put them on the counter for 10 minutes or so before rolling and pouring, because fridge temperatures mask the hop profile more than some other breweries, in my opinion/experience. I also pour IPAs slightly aggressively compared to other styles to release hop aromas -- that may influence my experience as well.

I thought Kites was great - almost effervescent for that level ABV. Not a lot of NYC IPAs achieving that level of lightness. I hope it stays around!
