Just send me to a nice warm cheap Caribbean island. I can deal with the Guinness export and blah AAL.

    Enjoy

4.04 for BCBS, just barely edging out Miller Genuine Draft at 4.03! "Whew," said AB InBev.

    And a barrel-licking 4.97 rating for Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale...explains a lot.

If I'm wrong I'll take it back, but reading your post I'm assuming you are implying that since @BenHoppy rated MGD a 4.03 and BCBS a 4.04 you don't trust his ratings? MGD is a AAL and BCBS is a BA imperial stout - if one is rating to style, you can certainly have both of those beers rated close to one another! My ratings for those beers differ from his ratings, but to imply that since he rated MGD highly somehow invalidates his ratings is wrong.

That's because I compare it to those of similar caliber. MGD is a great pale lager. Sure it's a macro but for what it is it's near perfect. But I haven't had it since I believe it was Coors who bought them out. Now for Kentucky bourbon barrel ale it's the best bourbon barrel ale I've had. As for BCBS it's better than both of these I highly agree but compared to other barrel aged stouts I didn't see it. My 4.03 rating is based upon other barrel aged stouts. Part of why rating system is bullshit because really shouldn't have same category in ratings for a lager and a stout.

No question that both of those beers can be rated close to each other. Just having fun observing and comparing ratings of two macro brews, hence my AB InBev reference. Not apples to apples, you are correct.

And the high rating for Kentucky BB obviously reflects his love-for-the-barrel palate. I personally couldn’t finish it the one time I had it but as I’ve said in this very thread, taste is subjective.

Boulevard Whiskey Barrel Stout is "awful"? Not even close. But as I sit here drinking one, my first beer of the evening, I will admit that I will never buy another one. You are right about the fusel edge. Not a fan. And there's just no complexity to it. Big fan of Rye on Rye, but this one definitely fell short for me. I'm going to follow it up with a Dragon's Milk and see how they compare. Maybe I will report back and continue to derail this thread. Whatever the case, you can't expect either one of those to be on par with Bourbon County. Look at the price.

Cw isn't year round, they rotate between stout, barleywine, scotch ale, and quad for their seasonals. They're all really good. I would agree though boulevard whiskey ba stout is definitely a beer I'll enjoy having available year round.

I purchased 8 bottles of 2017 regular and just had my first one. OUTSTANDING! I puchased 3 bottles of Velvet Merkin and had my first one. WASTE OF MONEY. I have a stash of KBS and I LOVE IT.

holy crap, that's a lot of variants. if you're interested in trading some coffee to CA lemme know. I have a list of what I think is pretty nice stuff I have here that I'd trade for it.

Some people love Merkin, but the majority of BAers (including myself) find it the least interesting of all of Firestone Walker's Barrel Aged series. I think it's a great beer as a component of their Anniversary. Not one that stands up on its own though.

Say what you want but the abv makes huge difference for this beer. I paid $15 for 1 bottle of 14.1% and $10.50 each for 2 bottles of 14.7%. The 14.7% abv has the bourbon flavor I had come to expect and if this is what I had in the beginning I never would've dissed this beer. Yes batch to batch makes difference. I had bad 14.1% batch and now having a fantastic 14.7% abv with full flavor. I actually get some vanilla that really works well with the bourbon. Cheers!

Sorry , I've never seen a price difference because of the Abv. There's some states with a 15% Abv cap , so they have to be careful, but I've never seen a price difference here. As far as the bourbon influence, if you can tell the 14.1 vs the 14.7 you palate is very sensitive, much more so than mine.

Yes I very much can tell a difference. My wife too could tell difference. She preferred 14.1 as 14.7 was too bourbon forward for her liking.

I bet it's expensiveeeeee, why would they continually send this much product into the NE unless it was for profits. It seems every year for months on end there Bc available. Here in an hour it's all gone and only 1 bottle.

Someone that can taste the difference in .6% ABV must have a super palate.
