Thanks for the kind words! I believe we are out of luck with plans to bottle that one. From what I gathered from the waitress, that was a special going away present for one of the head brewers to himself and the staff and it was extremely cost inefficient. You never know though...here's hoping!

no-go on Ft George??? BA cavatica stout is really good, but i suppose there is some wiggle room there. Matryoshka is killer and Im just going to assume you have not had it.

Block 15 has had issues with Super Neb in the past, but they have cranked out some of the best BA stouts I have had. Breakfast with Woodford and Buffalo are world class BA Coffee stouts, and Imagine and Cherry Imagine are both fantastic.

Alesong Rhino Suit and Mocha Rhino suit arent all that expensive compared to similar BA stouts, but yes, a lot of their bottles run a little too much for me as well.

Did you try this year's pFriem BA stout?? I thought the first vintage was ok, but I really think they did a nice job with it this year.

yes this is the one. fantastic beer. breakside needs to take a lesson from themselves on how they aged this beer.

had their chunky money last night after the bartender described it to me: "banana nut maple stout blended with an imperial stout aged in pappy barrels" . after tasting it, I could have been convinced i was drinking any run of the mill stout in town. not a bad beer, but not nearly as decadent as the description and not on the same plane as Cultivating Mass

Breakside's no hype gem this year.
    I hope they make more.

I'll actually sort of agree with him there. Cavatica/BA Cavatica are nothing great, Long Dark Winter is bad/mediocre, and North VIII is a barley bomb. It wasn't until Matryoshka that I knew Ft. George could pull it off.

In that light, I'm very excited for 1000 Years of Silence. Haven't seen bottles land in Seattle yet, but it looks like it's hitting the taps.

Not a PNW stout, but it’s west coast and we get distribution. The Ballast Point High West victory at sea is pretty damn solid. 12% and really well balanced. Also, 3.49 for a 12oz.

OK, let's digress, just a bit, from strictly PNW Stouts. Sticking to "Stouts available in the PNW", I'm curious to hear about other barrel aged stouts available in our markets that are (1) in 12 ounce formats, (2) reasonably priced (World Wide Stout doesn't count), and (3) pretty good.

I read @derftron's post while I was drinking a Stone Xocoveza. It's excellent, under $4 a bottle, and 12 ounces. Founder's Dirty Bastard comes to mind as checking all those boxes too.

    Are there others?

Technically a porter but six point 3bean bourbon barrel coffee porter is under $4.00 and pretty tasty.

I’m guessing Pfriem bourbon barrel stout doesn’t count since it’s $8.99

I haven't had them, but I guess you're asking about price, or what I mean by "reasonably priced." That's of course in the eye of the beholder, or the budget. I'd welcome anybody's suggestions as to what they think is reasonable.

I myself feel most comfortable with stuff that's maybe $6 a bottle or less. But if it's an exceptional beer, I'd still be more comfortable dropping $10 or $12 to try it, then having to go to $24 or more for a bomber (like, say, CBS).

Well, actually I meant to say in the original post "barrel aged beers", not restricted to stouts exactly. My second example, Dirty Bastard was a Scotch ale. So your suggestion of the Six Point coffee porter sounds great.

As for price, I wasn't trying to be rigid. See my reply #296 above.

Not a stout but i was very impressed by Lompoc's Lomporter..a very good traditional if a wee bit high in alcohol porter.
Had some at Westside Taphouse in Salem then went back for a growler.
Unusual for me and Lompoc to say the least!

Victory at sea is a porter also, I believe, and barrel aged 4 packs came into town last week...

Lagunitas Willetized? Haven't had it, but I'm assuming the change from High West to Willet won't change what I liked about the former.

If it takes a really big brewery to be able to do this at scale and reasonably priced (thinking of the pFriem example above), who in the NW could pull this off besides Deschutes? Maaaybe Widmer, though I suspect they'd have a tough time getting traction even if the beer turned out really good.

For the record, I'd vote for 6pks of something like a BA Imperial Obsidian rather than 6pks of Abyss.
