Sure, sure, there were some consequences, but more fun stories than anything else.

Though there always seems to be SOME paperwork associated with "The Riserva".

Boston Lager. A local happy hour has it on special for their happy hour. Out of a clean tap and I assume fresh due to volume I always enjoy it immensely.

Next time I get one, I’m calling it that. I might mention who coined that term also...:stuck_out_tongue:

No shame in your game...I like that!

Of all the Malt Liquors...Mickey’s is actually one of the better ones. I thought that at 16...and still do.

    I gave Narragansett a 4.37. Should be closer to a 5 if Bud's a 4.5.

I agree with you on Lagunitas PILS. Indeed an amazing beer, and a unique, yet subtle, flavor that can classify it as a Pilsner, but oh so much more.

I don't think the OP has an argument. Appears to me he/she is just saying that the beer is quite good and he/she is surprised by the BA score. I agree.

If anything it's overrated in my opinion. It's a terrible pilsner if taking style into even minor account. It's basically another pale ale for their portfolio, and Founders struggles mightily with anything hop-forward (or subtle for that matter).

Same thing I did. You must be an engineer too.
I got 21st Amendment Hop Crisis as my maximum delta > 4.50.
    Best. DIPA. Ever.
Sadly, I don't think they're brewing it anymore. Allegedly replaced by something called Blah Blah Blah, which is, well, blah.

According to the BA site it is classified as an American Pale Lager - not as a Pilsner.

I think that Founders PC Pils is a high quality American Pale Lager.

    Cheers!

I don't know if either of you has ever judged before, but the systems aren't usually that tight. For instance, in the BJCP, 40 of 50 points are style based, and the other 10 is for Overall Impression. This way if you think it's technically to style, but still not all that memorable, the system allows for a score to reflect that part.

CW's Brewer's Reserve Stout and Scotch Ale. These everyday BBA beers are easily overlooked considering everything else CW brings to the table (i.e. Black Gold, Ardea, Anniversary bottles, Maple, etc...).

I think if those Brewer's Reserve beers were made by most any other brewery, they would be good enough for a special release event. But because it's Central Waters, I think we're a little spoiled with what they put out...especially us in the Midwest.

I wouldn't say it was "terrible", but it's certainly not traditional by any stretch of the imagination.

    Agreed.

What's wrong with Founder's hoppy beers?

    Founders Porter, anyone?

I hate all of Founders's hoppy beers. They're all worse versions of better beers. Two Hearted is so much better than Centennial that I can hardly even compare the two mentally despite how similar they are on paper. Double Trouble is pretty simplistic and too boozy for a IIPA. Devil Dancer is more of a barleywine than a triple IPA, and even then it's an earthy onion bomb (which I actually sort of like, but it's not any form of pale ale). Pale Ale is so plain and just a much worse version of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Mosaic Promise and Azacca are a waste of their respective hops since the unique characteristics of those hops come across muddled. All of them have a pervasive bitterness that doesn't work with the rest of the flavors that they seem to be going for, and this is coming from a guy who adored both Palate Wrecker and Ruination 1.0. Their hoppy beers do less than nothing for me.

Obviously all my opinion, which should go without saying.

Founders Porter is a fantastic beer (up there with Backwoods Bastard for my favorite Founders beer), but "subtle" isn't a word I'd use to describe it. It's one of the most chocolate-heavy porters I've ever had. I commend it for that because it's delicious, but there's not a ton of balance there as in my other favorite porters like Samuel Smith Taddy Porter or Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald or Deschutes Black Butte or Anchor Porter. The epitome of porter to me is Hill Farmstead Everett, and that's mainly due to how amazing the balance is and how subtle all the flavors are. Founders Porter is a blunt dessert beer and flavor-wise has more in common with an American imperial stout than a traditional porter, at least to my palate (though, again, I want to reiterate that I really like it).
