Northwoods? Was it this week? And did it hit the floor or hidden in back?

I was told that Lakeview Binny’s would get Regular this week, but no variants. Not sure how true that is, but that’s the info I was given.

I was at Naperville Binny's around 6:30 tonight and they had a case of Northwoods on top of their stack or regular. I grabbed one and there were only two left, limit 1.

I've got plenty of Reg and BW. Coffee and Prop would be nice, but the other 2 don't seem that great. I'd buy them if I saw them available but not worth the chase. I feel like the reg and bw are t he best to drink and keep for aging.

Northwoods is my favorite of the bunch this year and I'm not even a berry stout kind of guy. If you haven't had it, I'd give it a go if you have the opportunity. One caveat though, I've only had it on draft, so out of the bottle might be a different story. There does seem to be some variations at limes. For instance, I liked Prop a hell of a lot more out of the bottle, there was zero banana on draft...YMMV.

    This.

There almost certainly are some people who would pay $1000/bottle for Prop. But I'm also almost certain they would be able to meet demand at current production levels with this price.

    Hey Chicago folks,
I can’t find regular BCBS here in Michigan. But my sister lives in Highwood, in the North Shore area. Anywhere up there I can send her to grab me some bottles?

Deerfield Whole Foods. As of last weekend they still had plenty. Might want to call first.

Anyone looking in the burbs, Algonquin Binnys has a mega ton of regular just sitting on floor.

Varies by store, apparently! DG had it in back; had to ask a beer consultant.

As much as I love to own bottles of BCS variants, the prices are frustratingly prohibitive even at MSRP if we're lucky enough to find them. I've learned i'd much rather check beermenus once in awhile to find Reserve or Prop on tap for about $1/oz than try to chase it down at $30+ for 16 oz. I know that's not an option for some, but I've finally given up on buying bottles because it's just not worth my time and frustration.

Sorry, off topic, but do they seriously call them "beer consultants"?

I don’t look at it that way. They’re making a metric fuck ton of barrel aged beer, and shipping it to all 50 states. BCS is their bread and butter as far as the BA lineup goes. They’re not going to sacrifice the regular for the weird beers. When they scale of production of regular, production of variants increases too.

Also, the demand for Founders is nowhere near BCS. If Founders put out the amount of KBS and CBS that goose puts out of BCS it would sit for months. I know I’ve passed on CBS multiple times after buying my one, but I’ve not passed on a BCS variant at retail price once.

Hell, LP binnys alone got around 75-80 cases of prop and coffee.

Try 166 minimum. 2 pp. 12 per case. 1000 guarenteed allocations more.

The gratest lie in beer is that BCS is rare in any way.

Not sure where that number comes from. They had at least 1000 allocations. Every allocation allowed 2 Props and 2 coffees each. 2000 bottles / 12 in a case = 166+ cases of each.

See that’s where my math was way off. I clearly divided/multiplied by 2 when I should have done the other.

But GI doesn't sell it out of their taproom.

Founders sold 3 weekends worth of tickets, probably ranging in the thousands of CASES to fill all those orders.

BCBS sits in only select parts of the country, other places it’s much harder to get. If you look at all six of founders back stage series, those are much easier to come by then all the BCBS variants. You might argue that it is more sought after, which is probably true, however, I would say Founders brews considerably more than Goose does of those beers. I don’t have the actual numbers but seems to make sense. Most places, at least around here got maybe one case of Northwoods, if any at all, I would argue that almost all stores get multiple cases of every back stage series nationwide (46 states).

I guess I would say that Founders brews as much of every one of their backstage as goose does of regular.

Goose’s barrel program also has, if not the biggest wine barrel program in the country, top 3 or 4. Those beers are all very easy to come by, mainly because of price, but stil. That’s not something Founders has explored at all.
