New to Ohio (2017)

I like Masthead a lot, drank a can of A Series of Tubes NE IPA tonight, but it's a close second to Noble Beast in my book. As always YMMV, but I really like what's coming from NB. Their Alt is my favorite beer on their menu. Great to have new breweries pumping out beer. Haven't been to Thirsty Dog's new place by the east bank, but happy to have that as an option now.

 

I only had one beer at Noble Beast, so the sample size is small. Need to get back.

One criticism of Masthead -I have had growlers filled on three occasions, and twice they filled it straight from the tap with no tube. I said something yesterday and the girl offered ro refill it from the bottom but I declined as I was drinking the growler right away.

Staff needs to be trained better, it seems.

 

I was at a Winking Lizard the other day and they had both Black Note and KBS bottles just sitting in the cooler

Well announced in a few places. Not sure about BA, but the Columbus beer fb group had the info a few weeks ago.

I had a Black Note at the Winking Lizard in Brunswick OH and the beertender was ready to bring another. No apparent limit there. I declined as I didn't have time to stay and I'm not quickly guzzling down such a wonderful beer.

 

Makes me sad. I think they're going to be doing brewery-only releases of these beers for awhile, especially because they want to start that app that reserves you beer and whatnot.

Hoping I'm wrong though and they do distribute some of them in the next few months.

 

Why do you think a lot of the breweries on the East coast that do these styles don't distribute more? Because they aren't very shelf stable. Listermann has had a lot of problems with oxidation on their NE IPAs lately.

I believe it's 500mL though. At least that's how it looked on social media. That would put the price point right on par with the rest of their BA beers.

 

It’s a 375. I’m guessing the higher price point is due to ingredient cost - there’s a lot of honey in it.
