I really enjoyed this year's CBS. Though I do seem to remember the Maple in it being more pronounced when they bottled it many years back.

At 17.50 for 12 ounces or something, I imagine it will be there for quite some time. I think they've had their keg of Lizard of Koz for nearly a year on and off at this point.

Thought I'd stop by one of my old haunts. Nice to see not much has changed.

I stopped by Ballard Market last weekend and picked up a bottle of CBS, it had long been on my list of beers to try and I'd sort of given up even thinking about it, so a welcome surprise. It was about $29 but fuck it, it's the holidays.

There were a couple more on the shelf, no idea if they had any more in the back.

Town & Country markets generally are expensive for beer. I paid 25.99 at John's in PDX no tax as point of comparison. Given that it's a 750 ml bottle, not so bad actually. But what are they trying to charge in Salem? Ridiculous.

I saw it the other day for $16.99. I'd already picked up one bottle at the normal price, so I passed on any more. I think it was a pricing error.

Had this year's CBS on tap. I thought it was good but not great. I do admit that I enjoy Fremont's barrel aged offerings much more. It did get better as it warmed up but it still lacked much depth. Memories from the 2011 bottle had years ago did not live up to this year's batch. I am certain palate shift and becoming more finicky when it comes to barrel aged imperial stouts played a major part in my enjoyment. I did however buy 2 bottles to age.

For anyone still looking for bottles, the Macadam's Zupan's has a full row of bottles "turding it up" in the cold box section. Price is $25.99, though I think there are several current holiday coupons out right now that you can use to drop that price (we have a current postal coupon from Zupan that allows us to take $10 off a purchase of $50 or more, or $25 off for a purchase of $100 or more - alcohol products are not excluded).

Something that I thought was pretty funny when I stopped by on Sunday. Over the holidays, they've put out a special display section, devoted strictly to bourbon barrel aged beers. In fact, that's where I last picked up some coffee and SW KDS, and at present they have regular Bbomb, MOAS and all the Abyss variants on display.

The one beer they didn't have on the display was the CBS. It made me wonder if the store manager is unaware that CBS is barrel aged beer, or perhaps he/she simply doesn't feel it's worthy to be included on the display with those other excellent beers.

Or perhaps they only got a single case of CBS and decided to try and spread the love as opposed to putting it all out on the floor for the truck chasing vultures. Believe it or not Zupan's still has actual beer stewards as opposed to Whole Foods and New Seasons who have been downsizing like crazy and/or forcing their stewards to handle both Beer/Wine/Bath & Body/Coffee and god knows what else.

Anything is possible of course, and I didn't talk to anyone about the display. Given that CBS had been out for roughly two weeks when I stopped by, and that they appeared to have at least a half case up on the shelf, I would be surprised if they only got a single case. But it's certainly possible.

That being said, there could be any number of reasons why they decided not to put CBS out on the display (for instance, I noticed the display only contained NW beers the times I saw it set up). I just thought it was a bit funny that such a hugely hyped beer as CBS, and one that is so sought after nation-wide, wouldn't have been included in their special display area.

I was just at the Whole Foods in The Pearl. They had a whole rack of CBS. $25 a bottle, no limit, 10% off on cases.

They’re turding it up in Olympia, as well. It’s a tough sell when they’re next to Fremont’s BA stuff.

That's my take as well. Anyone who has had the opportunity to try KDS and the Bbomb variants side by side with CBS... I know everyone's taste is different, but CBS would have to be a lot cheaper than the Fremont stuff for me to ever select it over KDS or Bbomb.

Maybe once all the BA Fremont stouts sell out (which shouldn't be too much longer at this rate), then maybe folks will be willing to settle for something like CBS again.

Broken Top Bottle Shop in Bend has it on tap. Most of the usual suspects have bottles on the shelves as well.

It was a very solid beer on draft at A-1 Greenwood. Will open a bottle with our flapjacks on XMas morning. I am looking forward to it very much.

Yup, pint defiance had a shit load too. I tried it 2 years ago in Portland Maine and wasn’t impressed. If it was half the price I might consider it.

What's incredible, is that the beer is still listed in the BA top 20. I still think it's a decent beer, but it wouldn't even make my top 50 BA impy stouts at this point.

Either the beer recipe has changed considerably since it was first released, or there's just been some huge improvement overall when it comes to the quality of nationwide BA impy stouts. I've got two bottles (am so glad that's all I have), and plan to serve one at an upcoming BA stout event. The other one, I don't know what I'm going to do with it. At this point, I don't think it even has any trade value (at least not for anything I want to drink).

Are you really surprised? That list appears to be a rarity contest these days, with BCBS being the only real exception that has kept its status despite wide availability.

I also have a bottle I don't really want (rather have my $30 back). I planned on gifting it, but it's been getting such poor reviews from you folks that I decided to give something else instead.

I was really excited to finally get to buy it and got three bottles. The price is in line with ba impy stouts given it's from the Midwest and is a 750ml instead of the usual 22oz. But even though I finally got to try it, it's unlikely I'll ever get another one. It's not a bad beer but I'd rather spread my beer money elsewhere. As for the high rating, people in other parts of the country hype their beers more.
Tickers gotta tic and that's what I did.
