honest question: can a beer truly be great if its NOT drinkable? I'm always curious when I hear that descriptor thrown around, and the context its in.....

if you look earlier in this thread, the whole goal of this first line of canned, barrel-aged porters was to make hyper-drinkable beers.....at the end of the day, we simply don't want to "struggle" to finish our beer, or have it be "challenging" to take another swallow.....the beer should beckon you!

I think you hit it out of the park. This beer was solid, full flavor and was super drinkable. I think people just want some booze bomb anymore. I am about the flavor and smoothness, if I wanted more I would just have a shot lol.

Porters are really great at accepting other exotic flavors into the recipe, but they're not very good as a base beer to take on intense amounts. Stouts, on the other hands, can absorb a higher level of intensity and strengths of contribution.

We're really happy we started with the porters, but we'll be moving on to a really interesting style this March...more details soon.

Scored a 4 pack in Northern Kentucky for $6.99, tried one, definitely liked it. Agree that I wish it had a bit more barrel, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Yeah, no. It’s a good beer. Little thin, tastes nothing like KBS.

@Sixpoint Do you know if/when this beer will make it to Iowa? Abu Nawas is the distributor.

Just picked up another 4 pack. Best I can describe it is like a Sam Adams Nitro coffee stout (without the nitro) with a hint of barrel flavor. It’s super easy drinking and delicious.

Every once in a while a store will improperly mark up a beer in the wrong direction, favoring the customer. This is one of those instances, where they are basically selling the beer at cost (less than $2 per can). Incredible deal!

That seems odd...did you try locating it on the beer finder?

For an entry into the style and the first widely-distributed version in cans, we are very pleased with the feedback. As noted several times, its a porter and not a stout, and it never was intended to have the flavor profile or barrel character of a stout. We specifically chose the Bean series for this purpose.

In March we'll be bringing in a whole new barrel-aged formulation, with a focus on rye this time. It will include several derivatives as well, similar to Bean Day. Can't wait!

Apparently only 2 stores near me got it, neither of which I frequent. All gone now. Oh well.

Enjoying one now. Certainly not fair to compare this to any BA coffee stout. This beer blazes its own trail. Unique and crushable for 10%.

Agree with this. IMO great balance of coffee, cocoa, and barrel.

The difference is most definitely critical. Not only in terms of body/mouthfeel, but also in terms of the roast level and acidity. A porter has that smooth, easy-drinking texture and taste to it.
