    LOL.
I guess you've never had a Gale's Old Ale or even a well cellared Thomas Hardy's Ale.
These are two beers that are indeed better when well aged...dramatically better than when they are "fresh".

I have had jw Lee's harvest ale and prefer it fresh over the 10 year old version I had.

Had a 2004 J. W. Lees - Sherry Cask over Thanksgiving and thought it held up marvelously. Did it improve? I don't know, but it was definitely still a very tasty beer.

Regardless, I think the big English Barleywines and Old Ales are much different from the U.S. beers that are barrel-aged because of the increased oxygen exposure that the barrel aged beers get. The prolonged time in the barrel tends to cause them to deteriorate rather rapidly in the bottle, causing the imperial stouts to turn to soy sauce and the barleywines to sherry in short order.

Happy to report that the KBS was outstanding. I look forward to doing more “research” throughout the weekend.

The stouts ought to be a good time - drink them in the next few months as they are as good as they'll get. What the hell, try the others, you never know. Unless they're IPAs - those should always be poured out even if fresh.

Pro-tip: For those who struggle to keep tabs on their cellars, I use the "list" function on Untappd to keep track of every beer in my cellar or fridges. It's actually a decent method for inventory control, each check-in will remove 1 from the list and you can even scan the bar codes to add them.
