it's insane how picky i've become with this style. agree on call it what you want, hugely disappointed. overly sweet and almost no haze/juice for me.

but then i don't think either of the new hop butchers are good either, mirrorball is decent but have no desire to drink i want to believe again. i would say we've gotten spoiled, but only in the fact that many places are making this style.

it's not unexpected, but quality has been all over the place.

I'm having IWTB right now, and had Mirrorball last night. I can see people not being blown away by either, but I'm a fan. I actually prefer IWTB, because it's a really interesting hop combo. Neither is the full-bodied almost sweet profile that most people here seem to prefer; both are pretty drinkable and almost refreshing, which is what I'm enjoying about them.

Regardless of where you fall, Chicago is absolutely crushing it currently. Corridor and FR are consistently pumping out great stuff, Hubbard's is hitting its stride, HB is back, and even HA has what I'd consider a decent take on the style (and a really delicious beer in its own right). It's pretty awesome we can be this picky even within the city limits.

I'm at work this xmas morning. Anyway, I had the Solmen Oath Call it What Want last night. This reminds me of the weaker Hail Storm offerings. No aroma, way too sweet, not balanced. Label says it's double dry hopped, but it taste like that went skimpy on the hops.

to be fair, double dry hopped doesn't really mean much... you infer two dry hop charges, but the size of those is up to the brewery. some breweries do single dry hops that are much more substantial than others 'double'

Agree with you about IWTB. Well made hazy beer with an interesting hop combo that just didn't work for me but some might love it. Mirrorball was a disappointment however.

Holihaze is another homerun for Marz. Wish I would have bought more than a single.

I'd like to know where I can buy any Tree House beer in Chicago for face value??? Not sure why you'd go with Tree House for your argument since you can't buy it here....

I had one last month at some pub in Lincoln Square that piqued my interest. I knew nothing about Alarmist. I had two of their beers- one good NEIPA which I don't remember the name and one average IPA. Someday I'll get over to the taproom....

Haven’t read this thread in a week or two, but needed to stop by to say V10 from Hubbard’s Cave is possibly the best NEIPA since b1 of Galaxy Bowl.

If you are going to spend money on a 750mL bottle this week, let it be v10

I think Solemn Oath saved the tastiness for Wonderful & Strange. I can't tell what the difference is between this and Strange Old Woods, but it tastes spot on and is so good.

Love it. Marz reluctantly got into the haze game and now it seems to be the focus. Sales must be good!
