Ohhhhhh but people will cream over the value even at a higher price per ounce. Most craft beer fans can't do simple math or are so drunk or focused on secondary market value they still couldn't do the math but they don't care.

We are in the age of and will further travel into the age of craft beer K-cups. Sure you are paying $7 for a cup of crap but who has the time to care. Never seen a hobby full of more fiscally ignorant people.

They lost me at " unfortunately India Pale Ales will continue to dominate". What a snobbish statement. My motto is, The best beer is the beer you like.

I certainly hope so, if I want a good Barleywine I visit Bier Baron Tavern in D.C. I can't seem to find other places with a legitimate BW list and most certainly any beer stores. It's shameful.

"ZX Ventures, ABI’s disruptive growth division, will continue to disrupt the industry by investing in those willing to sell their integrity."
I expect character assassinations on people you never met from internet trolls, not from the web site founders.
Integrity - uncompromising adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.
Apparently, selling your business now means you are immoral, unethical, and dishonest.

I agree. I've been increasingly disappointed with the rhetoric in several BA articles this year; and even more so in the author's response to critics of his choice of words.

I had a similar thought. A pretty narrow view for self-proclaimed "beer advocates."

    How does this "respect beer"?

I witnessed up close how the crew at Wicked Weed built a fantastic business, fairly quickly, and sold it for a very likely "great" profit. They were highly professional at every level and deserve respect for their business acumen and savvy. In retrospect, it seems like selling was the plan all along. It was a classy act.

Being from Tampa I’m already seeing some changes in consumer behavior.

The popularity of pastry stouts will decline, as prices continue to rise, flavor combinations become more ridiculous, and people realize just really how unhealthy these things are.

Pilsners are gaining popularity, as those who’ve had it with pastry stouts seek clean alternatives and gain an appreciation for going back to well done basics.

West coast IPAs will slowly regain their footing, as haze becomes tiring and people seek alternatives to juice bombs.

I don't think selling your business is immoral, unethical, or dishonest (nor do I think the author is saying that) - I think they are implying that it is unethical when companies like ZX Ventures invest in a company (seemingly independent beer magazine or seemingly independent beer website) without disclosing the potential conflict of interest.

How would you feel if you learned that Kelly Blue Book was partially owned by a subsidiary of Toyota or Consumer Reports was partially owned by GE??? Would you continue to trust the content?

No, but for many, selling one's business to a large multinational corporation might be seen as the ultimate act of "comprising" (if only on the price, if nothing else).

I knew I was setting myself up for this one but suspect if honest with yourself, you know what I mean.

My phrase was a bit "tongue in cheek" but getting somewhat weary of the extremes folks are going to to mask what can be thought of as somewhat traditional beer flavors and styles with pastry stouts, milkshake juice bombs and fruited beer. Subsequently if has become harder for me to find fresh traditional styles anymore because they are less popular. Some local places are producing some solid pilsners, alts, pales etc so all is not lost.

    But hey--drink what you like.[

I think that term "tastes like beer" is generally used by people who drink AALs and want their beer to essentially taste like BMC. I find it interesting when people who are into craft beer use it because really they should know better than anyone that "beer" is an extremely broad tent with styles for everyone.

And look, at the end of the day, I'm with you in that I like traditional styles. Give me a classic stout over all these diabetes inducing dessert beers any day ... I like NE style IPAs, but I also like West Coast style IPAs (which, like NEStyle IPAs technically aren't "traditional" IPAs) ... its really a matter of taste at the end of the day ... and regardless of taste its all still beer.

Welcome to the conversation. I think you will find some people (nearly all of them NOT trolls) consider ABI to be immoral and the act of selling to this immoral behemoth to be an immoral act. Once you do a bit more reading on the subject and become more familiar with the dynamics of this long running discussion you will begin to notice this is the case.
